Pain med absorption after RNY?

Thak you for all these great ideas!  I am in a soft cast.  It has a little place for air to go in it, but that is small, and it is mostly a kind of black fleece thing with metal bars up the side and velcro straps.

I think the cryo boot sounds awesome.  I wonder if I am now too far along (6 days after surgery) for it to make a difference.  i had a similar thing after knee surgery several years ago and loved it.  I have been able to undo the straps on my boot and lay an ice pack along the top of my foot.  The doc did not want me to take my foot out of the boot until at least today.  So tomorrow morning I will take out my foot, remove the Ace bandages--and then I am allowed to shower before putting the foot back into the boot/cast.  At that point, I think I am allowed to ice more.  So maybe I could use something like the cryo boot.  I will find out! I know that physical therapy will create a need for icing all the way along, so I really will look into this.

I did rent a scooter!  My husband got it set up for me yesterday, and it has made me feel so awesome.  I had been using my crutches until that--was getting blisters on my hands--and it was harder to get around.  The scooter is so freeing!  My 12-yr-old son was laughing at me yesterday: "Mom!  Did you know you are singing a silly little happy song about your scooter while you are riding it around?"  And I was!  I was just riding the scooter around singing a little song about my scooter.  Haha.  I ordered a basket from Amazon to put onto the scooter, and it should arrive on Tuesday--then I can carry stuff around.  It is really something how we do not realize how much something simple--like carrying things around--is so important to us, until we lose that ability.

I appreciate the good advice on the pain meds.  I expect a few more surgeries in the next couple of years, and it is good to know about other med options than what I have tried before.

Again, thanks for your generous response.

xoxo

Good morning!

So glad that that you found the information useful.

Glad you rented the knee scooter.  My sons loved the knee scooter. They all took turns riding it around the house.

Every person who came to visit post op rode it around the house. I loved it!

I would definitely ask your MD if you can use the Cryo Boot?

I used it for 5 weeks post op.  Really helped with pain and swelling! Take care! Hoping you are on the mend. So glad my surgery went well. Hoping to tattoo around my incision some day!

Take care

Sandra.
