Band-to-RNY question...NSWE (not safe while eating)

Ugh...that really really sucks!  I puked when I was 2 days post-op with my band, it was awful....and freaked me out.  Doc came and checked me out, I was OK....but still, blergh!  I hope everything is settled now!

So far so good for me since bypass, but puking was what started my band slipping years ago. Then it was an every day event until it was removed!! So much damage bypass and removal of band were not done together.

F Y I   I have found "sensations" are vastly different between band and bypass. I did not get any sensations in my new pouch for 4 months, so prepare for this possibility. Measuring food amounts was/is crucial as feeling full as a trigger to stop eating won't work.

Good luck and much success!!

Glad to see this comment, I am almost 4 months out and still have only had a real "full" feeling once or twice and likely that was from overeating. So much different than the band when something stuck became my trigger for the end of the meal. Hoping it's just the nerves in my pouch working to get back more feeling.  As a matter of fact I thought perhaps my pouch was too big but had a stricture which was repaired by endoscopy and the person performing the procedure was startled at the extremely small size of my pouch. I have really never felt uncomfortably full at all even as I made the transition to regular food that seems to be so difficult for some. I'm not hoping to be uncomfortable or anything it just makes me worry/doubt that this surgery will really work for me. Typical newbie doubts I know! ?

Thank you for the heads up, I really am not sure what to expect in terms of the difference in sensations between the two.  I know measuring and tracking will be key.   I think the only thing I've heard repeated again and again is that revision patients don't lose as quickly (or as successfully) as people who just have one surgery.   I'm not sure how true this is....I suspect it has a lot to do with the individual person, their genetic makeup/preparation, etc.   Either way I certainly don't expect the weight to magically fall off me, I know it's going to take a lot of hard work....I've spent almost a year now 'retraining; my brain for it.

Weight loss is slower in my case, but try not to compare. That's another pitfall for any WLS and something I really struggle with.

That is so true....comparison can be such a rabbit hole, I have to try and remember not to do it!  For me personally, I know my weight loss post-revision will be impacted by my thyroid disease....something I didn't have when I was banded.  In fact, it was partially my thyroid that tipped me off the rails....I say partially because the other part was my fading commitment to the end-goal......at the time I hadn't addressed any of the emotional issues I had with eating etc.   Much better place now, with new challenges of course, but that's life

RNY life is so different from banded life.  I threw up pretty much daily for 8 years with the band.  I did end up with a stricture after my RNY and had non-stop throwing up for several weeks, but everything is now fabulous on the barfing front.  As a matter of fact, I've only yacked twice since my stricture was taken care of.  Puking is even easier and more comfortable post RNY than it was with the band, and you know how easy it is with the band.  You're going to be so much happier and not believe that you can eat most anything without issue.  It's amazing!

I am a band to RNY conversion, and I find the RNY to be much better. I do not throw up any longer. With the band, it was a common problem.
