Don't know what to do anymore
Hi All,
First time posting on this forum, i've read a lot and it's helped me get through this process.
So here's my situation;
I had RNY on the 18th of January and everything went great, I was home on the 20th and off my pain meds but the 22nd. Starting Tuesday of this past week I started dry heaving out of nowhere, I had progressed to soft foods as per my surgeons office so I thought it was maybe that and went back to full fluids. Wednesday I had a terrible fever with the chills so I thought maybe I had caught the flu..fast forward to Friday and I find myself in the ER because I cannot stop dry heaving and my body is freezing and I have a pain around my pouch area. They took a CT scan and admitted me, once the CT scan came back they thought I had a hernia..they later ruled that out. I am still in the hospital as of today and they have no idea what's going on they just keep giving me pain meds, zofran, tylonel whenever my fever is back and IV fluids. I have been taking my anti-acid medication since the day I got home and I'm hoping they will do a scope today as my condition has not changed and we can figure it our but i'm really afraid they are just going to send me home without knowing what's wrong. Has anyone been through a similar situation and what was it?
Any insight greatly appreciated!

Just an FYI, a terrible strain of the Norovirus is going around and you could just have really terrible luck and caught it right after surgery! I am so sorry you are sick and hope you get better soon and are back to working your way to a better, thinner you!

Has your surgeon been in touch? I hope they scope you to see if something else is going on :(

I'd be unstoppable if not for law enforcement & physics
Fever is usually always a sign of infection, Weather it be your body fighting off a virus, or an infection at the surgical site... Can you eat and drink without heaving? or do they just have you on IV meal replacement? I would demand to speak to your surgeon, they usually stop in during morning rounds. Ask lots of questions! Hang in there!
Hang in there! Hopefully it's nothing serious, and possibly as someone else said, the flu chose the worst time to present itself...
Is your BA doctor involved in this? That's really important this early out!

I have been at the hospital my surgery was done at and someone from his team came to see me this morning, I am just waiting to go up for a scope. I hope they can get to the bottom of it because the nauseous is horrible I've had iv meds for it all morning. Will update once I know more, thanks everyone!
Another rough night in the hospital last night, they never ended up doing my scope so hopefully that's on the agenda today. They took urine and blood cultures and stuck a really big qtip up my nose. I've been alternating between cold and fever and am getting a dose of anti nausea medicine every two hours and pain meds every four. I am really hoping to get some answers today as I don't feel better at all.
Sounds like they are leaning towards flu (given the QTip swab). Given the fever, it does sound like an infection. Hang in there. Ask about them doing an upper GI with xrays to make sure there is not a blockage somewhere... When I got blocked up (due to my gut growing massive amounts of scar tissue when I had my surgery), I also developed a fever because I developed a small rupture into my abdomen.
