Would you take a cruise 6wks post op?
I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I personally would not do it myself. I felt great for the first month of surgery ... high energy, diet tolerated well, etc. and then I started having problems. Once I switched from soft foods to regular, I started having huge problems with nausea and vomiting. Everyone responds differently to the surgery and there's no way to predict how you will do. Chances are that you'll do just fine but if not, who wants to be on a cruise and be sick the entire time. I would wait to do the cruise 6 months after the surgery ... you'll have lost more weight, be feeling great, and could enjoy more of that fabulous cruise food (in tiny amounts, of course) good luck with your surgery and with making the decision!

I would not. I was nauseated for app 3 -4 months. add that to the boat - plus at 6 weeks post op I was still trying new foods - I was on a restricted diet. I could not drink fast. I could not have coffee or other more adult drinks... My infusions healed nice - but 6 weeks post op I still had lifting restriction.. and i was often very tired...
I went on a cruise 9 month post op and i had a blast. I was able to enjoy (sample) foods, could take meds for motion sickness... and I was fit- skinny enough to really enjoy excursions and the pool...
There is also possibility of a norovirus.. and we our rerouted insides- getting sick is really not fan.... having relatively fresh incisions... I would not risk that...

I personally would not go that soon. I'm in the process having revision, have not made up my mind whether to go from Lap Band to Sleeve or RNY. Anyway, I already have a cruise booked and paid for, so my surgery date will be determined on how fast the approval process goes. If I don't get approved in time to have surgery at least 12 weeks prior to the cruise, I will schedule my surgery for after the cruise.
Hmmm... this is tough... I would likely base my decision on how active you would like to be on the cruise. We've done a three day cruise to Baja Mexico where we were very inactive... it was essentially a booze cruise. I would feel that could be easily done at 6 weeks. However, we're planning a Mediterranean cruise for my 40th bday this summer and I specifically made sure I'd be at least 4 months post op when it came time because we expect to be VERY active. I think it depends on how you deal with the activity normally and what you feel is reasonable.
I would have the surgery and postpone the cruise. Not that I think you will physically not be able to handle it...it is more the mental and asjusting to your new diet...it takes time.
I had lots of events my first 3 weeks- 3 weddings, including a family one with lots of out of town family, my brother's 60th birthday, and a bbq hosted by me for 100 people in my backyard...
But each event was one day or a couple of hours so I navigated...7 days straight would be hard.
