Would you take a cruise 6wks post op?
My doctor is strongly encouraging me to have my surgery before I take my cruise in August. Best case I would be 6wks post op. I think it seems risky to take an active vacation that soon after surgery. I know my doctor is the expert but I would love to hear from people who have been through the surgery. Do you think you could have gone away and had a good time that soon after your surgery?
Thanks
1000% yes. I mean, assuming you don't have complications, you would be more than fine. Everyone has a different experience, but I had surgery on a Monday, was home Tuesday, walked to the grocery store Wednesday, and back at work (office Marketing job) the next Monday (took 5 days off). The first two weeks I was on a liquid or soft liquid diet, and then the third week I was cleared for things like tuna fish, egg salad, ground chicken, etc. That third week I had to fly across the country for a business trip and it was absolutely fine. Six weeks out I was cleared for exercise and started doing the treadmill at the gym. I definitely could have been on a cruise and had a great time.
That being said, it may depend on mindset, age, genetics, co-morbidities and other factors. I was 36, 351 lbs day of surgery, but other than aching knees, no other mobility problems.
Good luck!

I think it is totally up to you. I was back at work a week after surgery and did some traveling for work in the first 6 weeks so it is possible to do. You can be as active or inactive on a cruise as you want to be so it is up to you to decide what you would like to do. I am going on a cruise in April and really looking forward to it!

At six weeks I was doing fine. I think a vacation would have been awesome.

I suspect you'd be fine but it would still make me nervous. I just know people who are still struggling at 6-8 weeks, who aren't eating & don't have much energy. I was fine by then (I'm at 7 weeks now) but if you're having trouble at all, it could make for a less than fun cruise. You'd very likely be fine but there is definitely a little risk there, if things don't go perfectly smooth.
So, judging by what people have said on here, I was an extraordinarily slow healer. I was in pain until week 4. Felt like I had no energy. It was rough. At week 5, I felt much better, and now I'm almost to week 7 and feel great.
Oh - and you will also feel great having dropped a bunch of weight already. A cruise would be amazing. You can find whatever you need to find to eat, except - bring extra protein drinks.
I was one of the few who struggled for the first couple of months. at 6 weeks I was still having to deal with nausea and extreme fatigue, so I was on nausea meds for 2 solid months. Since I have only been on 1 cruise I can't say for sure if it would have affected me, but if you tend to get car sick, the gentle rocking of the ship might not feel great. Just something to consider.
And if you do go, order the bottled water for your room, hydration is so important in the first couple of months.

i would not- your insides are healing and plus there will be zillions of foods you flat out cant have at that point. I was in fact still on purees at 6 weeks. I don't think cruise food is conducive to puree and you would have to tote around a food processor on the boat? just getting a mental image of that now. your plan may be totally different, as they do vary.
I would not. I have been on several cruises and they push food on you at every turn. You might not feel compelled to eat it, but some things took a while for me to wean myself off of mentally. It would have been tough to be faced with the look and smell of it constantly...
