Trying so hard...

Yeah the pre-op diet sucks - that's a fact!  They seem to vary widely - some people have to do Optimist, some can have one meal a day...my plan was two weeks of liquids.  I had a lot of chicken broth and skim ricotta cheese microwaved with Italian seasoning added, since I got sick of sugar free jello and sugar free popsicles and sweet light and fit greek yogurt pretty quickly.  The second and third day were the worst, since I had a headache.  BUT, it got my head in the game, I lost weight, and the whole point of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver and make the upcoming surgery safer and easier for your surgeon.  So as much as it sucks, stick with it!  Almost all of us on the site managed to live through the pre-op diet, and I promise the long-term health and happiness you will find once you are no longer obese is more than worth it.  So yes, you are welcome to feel like a cry baby and come here and find others who have been through it or are going through it - this is a great and supportive community and we get it, unlike your mom and brothers.  Vent away, but stick with it, and in 21 days your life will head in a brand new and wonderful direction :)

And I have to edit this to add - when I started feeling really sorry for myself, and hating myself, and wondering why I can't have pizza like "normal" people, I had to remind myself that what got me to 351 lbs (day of surgery!) was having MORE than my share of pizza, and of everything...so that helped me feel like I could cope with the "deprivation" I felt.

At 3+ years post-op, I do not feel deprived, of anything.  I can eat almost anything, in a smaller portion.  It gets better, I swear :)

The energy will come back in a day or two.  I've been on several severe fasts.  That's typical.

I had 7 weeks of pre-op.  But it does get better.  We could chomp on celery and other select raw veggies.  That got old quick.  Hang in there - the headache may be that you need some more fluid.  Maybe pound that for a day to see if that helps.  7 weeks.  Damn I'm glad that is over ;)   It's worth it!!!

I do remember the first meal in the hospital.   Beef broth - damn that was so good.  That and a SF bomb pop.  I didn't care about the pain after that :)

Sorry I can't offer any words of advice since I didn't have to do that pre-surgery but wanted to tell you to hang in there! You got this-push through. Maybe try crunching on some ice cubes?

I didn't have to do this prior to surgery, but did 16 days after... yes... got super old super fast. Was so excited to be released into soft foods, but I just knew it'd make me sick if I at something else. I know it's different, but maybe thinking about the reason why they do this (shrinking the liver is always what I heard) and reminding yourself of why that is a huge benefit prior to surgery. Good luck!!

I am glad you are posting. I had a hard time with the liquid diet. I was lucky to have this website to help me.

You can get through this. Just keep thinking how much better life can be. It gets better trust me.

I had a hard time at first too. It will get more tolerable. SF ice-pops were my life saver! Hang in there.

I seriously appreciate all of the positive words of wisdom and the "keep it pushing" comments as well. I know I will be fine. but man it is ridiculous how much my body seems to be shutting down almost. The lack of energy, and having to chase after 2 year olds and boy I am an exhausted, emotional, mess.
