Protein shake options
Hey everybody!
I was going to ask this question on the diet/nutrition forum but there doesn't seem to be a ton of activity over there.. sooo here I am :)
Does anyone know of a good shake alternative to the premier protein shakes? I think I might have a sensitivity/allergy issue with whey. Still trying to pinpoint what it is but I have developed a faint little rash on both sides of my face. Almost like eczema. I really like the shakes I have because they're high in protein and low in all the other stuff so I want to find a close comparison if I can. Thoughts?
Thanks!
I use orgain. They are organic and they have a plant based protein shake. They also don't have that fake chemical taste. They carry them mostly at Target. I just order it online if you are not near a target.
Just a thought.... usually a food sensitivity/allergy would cause a reaction on more than just your face, something taken internally theoretically should cause a systemic reaction. Have you changed anything else? Like body/laundry soap, tried a new makeup or lotion, or started wearing a new scarf or coat that hasn't been washed? I mean it might be an allergy/sensitivity to whey, but it could easily be a localized dermatitis to something new in your environment and it would be a shame to give up on a protein shake that you tolerate if you didn't need to.

It could be lactose, not whey that is bothering you. Whey protein isolate is lactose free, whey protein concentrate is not.
There are also Casein proteins and egg protein powders that are whey-free. I forget the brands off hand.

Vegan orgain protein powder, or egg white, ...
You may be allergic not to whey but to some chemicals in the premier...
Best if you try to see an allergist to determine what are you allergic to.

About 18 months post op or close to 2 years post op I suddenly became very lactose intolerant, never was before in my life! So like Grim said it could be the lactose. Go to the website "World According to Egg Face" and see some of her protein shake options. I made a lot of shakes with water to save on calories. Powder like Syntrax Nectar ones Fuzzy Peach was my fav and a lot of people liked the Roadside lemonade. You can find them on Amazon, Nashua Nutrition, Vitamin Shoppe etc. I have used Nashua Nutrition a lot and I liked it because you could buy sample sizes for a few dollars and then you are not stuck with an expensive tub of protein powder you don't like!
Good luck I hope its not a whey allergy that would suck so hence I am hoping its a lactose problem for you!

Thanks for the suggestion for the Syntrax Nectar. I just ordered the sampler so that I can find out what tastes good.

I'm hoping it's not a sensitivity but I can't imagine what else it could be since nothing else has changed for me. I'm an esthetician so I deal with a lot of skin issues for people and almost always see things show up in people's cheeks when they have something going on in their digestive tract which is why I'm suspicious of either food or something else going on in there. So if I don't get it figured out I'm going to go see a doc. I'm will try some other options before I have to do that though. Hopefully I can play detective well enough and figure it out on my own.. Fingers crossed!
