What's on your Menu Today (Wednesday) RNYers?
You can still do it if you really put your mind to it! I think the biggest thing we do (other than sabotage with food) is that we beat ourselves up over it. If you really hunkered down, I bet you could pull off whatever you wanted to!

off to a day at the lab later on this morning for that research study I'm in. I know I'm in for an MRI - not sure what all else today (evidently a lot since I'll be there for eight hours!). Tomorrow night is the sleep study. They're supposed to provide lunch today. I'm bringing a protein bar with me just in case there's nothing edible for lunch....
QOTD: I stay on OH because it keeps me focused on my weight and health, and I stay on the menu board in particular because of accountability and because it puts me in the right frame of mind every morning. Plus I think planning what I'm going to eat over the course of the day is helpful, too, even if I don't always stay 100% on whatever my plan was. Plus I really like the people on this board as well! You all are my friends and my support!!
20 months out (as of Friday!)
B: homemade Greek yogurt, 10 raspberries
S: coffee with half & half, double SF protein/fiber mocha latte
L: ??
D: pork chop, cole slaw made with sesame-miso vinaigrette
a L&F Greek yogurt later if I can afford the calories
have a great day everyone!!
first, for those who don't know, it's a "well-being" study, where they test the effects of different things on your stress level. First we go through a bunch of tests - blood and saliva tests (to check cortisol levels), MRI, sleep study (looking at brain waves, etc) for a baseline. That's the part I'm going through today and tomorrow. Then you're randomly assigned to one of three groups - a yoga & meditation group, an exercise & nutrition group, or a control group. The meditation group and the exercise group go through several weeks of classes (actually, the whole study goes for 10 months). The control group doesn't do anything. Then they run all the tests again at the mid-point and then again at the end of the study. It's being done by some neuroscientists at the university in town.
anyway, in order to get selected, I first had to fill out a Web survey. Then I was called for a phone interview - and then I had an in-person interview. My husband applied as well but didn't get selected - I assume they're looking for a wide range of people - ages, genders, etc. They may have already had enough people of his demographic.....
I'm loving the idea of sesame miso dressing on coleslaw!

here's the recipe I use for the dressing. It keeps forever in the fridge, so I usually make a triple or quadruple batch at a time. Then I buy a bag of that pre-made coleslaw mix (it's usually a couple different kinds of cabbage - plus carrots). Makes a quick side - I just dump out some cole slaw mix on my plate and spoon a tablespoon or two of dressing on it (if I'm eating a full cup of cole slaw, I use two tablespoons of dressing since it's pretty flavorful). The dressing is really good on fish, too - although I grill my fish rather than pan-fry it (like they do in this recipe)

Morning guys!
Our weather is so wacky here, I wi**** would make up it's mind! Today we're going up to 68F...and then it's supposed to drop back down to the 40s-50s like it should be. My poor plants don't know what to make of it, it's barely february and I've got daffodils and tulips coming up . This morning the scale told me that I'm now officially under my post-pregnancy weight....the weight I was right before I had our son. It's a number I haven't seen in awhile, so I'm definitely pleased! Today is for more work in the studio largely, it's rare that I get days where I can actually concentrate on just my work...there's usually a bazillion other things to do, so I'm definitely looking forward to this. Tomorrow is my pre-op day, whoop whoop...all day long, classes and appointments. It's getting exciting....10 days until GO DAY!
QOTD: I love this question...there's a couple things that bring me back here. I joined OH years ago when I was first banded....but there was never a sense of camaraderie in the banding forum like I've seen in the RNY forum, and I wasn't at a place in my life where I was comfortable just jumping in. So when I made the decision to work towards a revision I promised myself I was going to make a serious effort to ensure I had multiple branches of support...and OH is definitely one of those branches, so really my commitment to myself is something that brings me back each day. The other thing that brings me back is the people I've found here. When I first came back I posted a blog about how I was hesitant to just jump right in because I hadn't had my RNY yet and I wasn't sure where I belonged, and I was encouraged to just do it...and to join in the menu thread....so I did, and now I encourage people to join it as well. like DD2 said....it helps that you guys 'get it'....you guys understand the whole package. I feel really good about delving into my surgery with this group at my back.
Also DD2 thank you for the reminder...I'm going to aim to be as strict with my menu as possible post-surgery...most importantly I want this excess weight gone, I can tweak stuff later.
MENU:
B: Coffee w/FF 1/2 and 1/2 + benefiber, premier protein shake
S: Egg Salad
L: Deli Ham w/cream cheese rolls
S: Jello + apple slices
D: Chorizo + Scrambled Eggs
V: Patches - I started using them a couple days ago, but wearing them overnight
L: Water Water Water (after my morning cuppa)
E: Walk - I can't wait until I have a dog to keep me company while I walk....but that's for later, after I'm all healed up
Have a great day everyone!
Kelsey

i stayed in my car a few minutes to toss this answer out: will circle back later with my menu...
Qotd: I stay here because you all are the few people in my life that are actively working at losing/maintaining in a WLS lifestyle. I need to be around people *****late to that. The daily thread has become way to wordy- so I post as much as my work schedule allows during the week-- but I always post on weekends. I read often- but overall my reading of the daily menu thread has lessened. One- I rarely pay attention to others menus. I don't because I do not want to read them thinking that I'm not doing right/enough in my own. And I also don't pay attention because I don't want to be judgmental-- I do feel that people need to figure out what works for them. Sure I've seen menus and thought WTF- but until that person asks for help-- it's on them. I still Scan the thread to keep tabs in what's going on with regulars-- and try to get to know newbies. But since newbies disappear- I don't invest much time/energy.
Also- total honesty- the pet talk drives me crazy. I have a dog and cat- but they are far from the center of my life. I do wish there was an off topic thread so some of that chatter can be separated. But rather than project my feelings- I just step back from it all.
