What's on your Menu Today (Wednesday) RNYers?
Hi everyone!
QOTD: I plan on staying on OH to keep me accountable. Although I really do wish this were like a private facebook group with a code name lol. I see there are bariatric surgery support groups but they aren't private.
I also plan on being super strict until I hit goal (once I get surgery). Right now it is super difficult to stay on plan because I am hungry a lot and I feel like it may be the last time I have whatever it is. Yesterday I stayed on plan until dinner but then my hubby wanted to go out for dinner so I ended up having sushi instead.
Today (I SHALL stay on track!)
B: Protein Shake
S: P3 pack
L: Yogurt and moon cheese
D: Chicken fajita salad ( no tortillas)

Honey...I am 8 years post op. RNY ...I could not stay on track day after day with your menu. Sorry. I don't think you are eating enough for pre-op. Heck...it Would not be be enough or right things for me me now. Below goal and maintaining. Yogurt and moon cheese for lunch? I would be starving by dinner and..stray... Just saying..
Menu like that looks OK for someone a couple months post op. When. You have a small pouch day.

Well before I started this process I never ate breakfast except maybe on weekend. I rarely ate lunch unless something was going on at work. I would come home and eat a huge meal for dinner and snac****il bedtime.
So I tried adding in meals because my NUT required 3 meals all with protein. I still had kept my calories low because I know I am still prone to eating more at night and want to save room for those calories. But you may be on to something I may be thinking of this all wrong. I AM very hungry when I get home and ready to eat right then. Often it is appealing to go out rather than take the time to cook. So I will think of some new things I can add to my lunch. Really my snack and lunch aren't really usually far apart because of my work schedule, but I will have to figure out something easy to add. I like that the things I have are easy to grab and don't require planning. I go to the gym before work so I am already getting up at 4:30 and out the door by 4:50. Thanks for the advice!
My group recommended that I do 5 small meals....all protein heavy, and that helps a LOT with managing the hunger. I am banded, though it's currently empty and all screwed up (I have a hiatal hernia and my stomach likes to slide around like it's doing a dance) so that may help with my satiety. I do have days where I eat my 5 meals and I'm STILL hungry. On those days I just make sure if I do want something more that it's protein and that keeps my tummy happy, and quiet

I am not surprised you are hungry when you get home.. I would not consider yogurt and moon cheese a substantial lunch, especially pre-op. Dense protein even pre-op will keep you full longer. If you are trying to develop good habits now, I would cut out that P3 pack too. As Daisy said there are things you may eat in Maintenance that you shouldn't be eating while losing....and while those P3 packs aren't the worst, they aren't the best...
Many people do like turkey and cheese roll ups. Pre-portion it in sandwich bags so you can grab and go. Don't know if you consider hard boiled eggs 'cooking' but I peel and put two in a sandwich bag with salt and pepper already on it. Again grab and go. Either of those with your yogurt would be more filling...

The P3 packs you say aren't the best. Is that because of the nuts in them? I don't get the ones with the fruit or bacon but usually it has a meat, cheese, and nuts. Or is it some other reason that they aren't a good choice. Sorry I am learning!
I honestly try to keep sandwich type meat out of the house because my hubby is a heart patient and can't have all of that sodium. I am afraid if it is available he will eat it, but I may can pre-pack it and take it to the work fridge...never thought about that before.
I use the Land O Frost Hickory Smoked Turkey Breast , four slices (they're thin sliced) and one single slice of real American cheese...not the processed cheese product. It's perfect for lunch or a snack!
I usually eat my breakfast, a snack a few hours later, one more snack a few hours later, and then my "lunch" items around 3pm. This way, I'm not super hungry when I first get home. It helps me out by giving me time when I get home to get chores done before dinner starts needing to be cooked.
It's all trial and error though!

Well... they are probably fine for now but immediately post surgery...you won't be able to do the nuts. I haven't looked at them lately I am not sure of the calorie to protein ratio.... that is probably what turned me off... and thinking it wouldn't be satisfying...
Generally try and do at least 1g of protein for every 10 calories...esp. early out... so 150 calories at least 15g protein...
