Hi everyone, how are you?  Writing from the cold & snowy Great White North!  Happy February 1st! Hard to believe its February already! Accountability: I did not stray from my menu yesterday in the sense that I did not have any sweet treats, I did switch a few things, I had deli turkey slices for dinner instead of my turkey burger and a yogurt in the evening instead of hot chocolate but no sweets!  I am going to eat the yogurt I have in the fridge and then stop buying it, I think its contributing to my wanting sweets all the time as well its a slider food so does not keep me full.

QOTD: What motivates you to come to OH daily and what will motivate you to STAY on OH?  I have been on the menu thread since the days when DCGirl and AnnyBanny did the moderating (HEY GIRLS! ) and there was a different crew then.  I see a lot of people come on when they are newly post op and are all gung ho and then they leave after a bit, even recently I have seen a lot of people I never thought would drop off have.  I truly like "hanging out" with you all and enjoy hearing about your lives and meeting new people, talking to old friends and getting new ideas for food every now & then, that's what motivates me to come here daily.  What KEEPS me here is the fear of losing the accountability, the fear of regain, the fear of not being able to talk to someone about how hard this post op life is, how much I struggle to stay on plan, how much I need to be with people who "get it".

And on that note I need to get something off my chest, Newbies and by that I mean anyone who is just a year or under post op, STOP sabotaging yourselves!!! Stop eating toast, rice, grits, granola, cereal, oatmeal, protein bars & alcohol (when you get to goal then knock yourself out and eat all those things if you want, but get to goal at least)!! To quote a Vet here I think Grim said you have got to be a Robot, get the weight off as fast as you can, be super strict with your menu, protein protein protein.  Little to no carbs.  I keep seeing people who are 5 -7 months post op and eating like they are years post op, you are just making it harder on yourself down the road.  I truly can't express on a computer in a menu post how HARD it gets.  I think I told you all before, my Centre "believes" that the malabsorption actually starts to decline at 6 months post op, in their opinion by 7-9 months post op you are absorbing almost all the calories you eat. Trust me when I say this, if I didn't care and didn't want to see you all successful at get to your goal weight I would not have spent the time writing out all that above.  Did I mention how HARD is gets after one year post op, it gets HARD and I struggle daily! Do what you want with my advice, tell me off if you want but that first year post op is a "golden" time of getting the weight off.

Aw dammit. I'm sitting on the train and realized that my lunch bag is sitting on the counter at home. Boooo. Of course, I have back to back meetings from 8-4:30, except for a brown bag lunch at noon that I really wanted to attend. I guess I will have to run out and get something, then. They opened a Jimmy John's across from the office so I will probably grab a sammie and eat the insides. I'll get a coffee and I have a Chomps meat stick, so I'll manage, but still...dammit!

Daisy, I'm in total agreement with you. Hindsight is 20/20 and so many people are going to look back on the first year out and wish they made better choices. You have a lifetime of maintenance ahead where you get to experiment with oatmeal and toast, but while you are losing--NOT WORTH IT!

QOTD: First off, thanks to all of you my menus are getting better and better. Cynthia thanks for the heads up on the cheese bites from Trader Joe's! Kelly, I finally made the low carb pizza dough last night. YUM! And Maryann texted with a positive review of her Sous Vide Egg Bites so I'm biting the bullet and ordering the Instant Pot and Sous Vide attachment. Yay! (Oh and next time I'm at Target--Crio Bru K cups!). You all are the BEST!

And to echo everything you said--I'm also here for the community of friends who "get it". I feel so blessed that I've gotten to meet so many of you in real life and can really call you true friends. But most importantly is the accountability. I am not perfect. I eat stuff that is "off plan" and I struggle. But making a plan and staying honest about whether I followed my plan is invaluable. I know I would have screwed up a lot more without you all.

It's made by Instant Pot and made specifically to attach to their pot.
