How many are losing their taste for certain things?

I had 1.25oz of braunschweiger yesterday for lunch with mustard and cheese.  It was heavenly.

For a short time, I had a craving for Oreos and would drink Atkins Cookies and Creme for the liquid/protein/sweetness. Now I don't ever want Oreos in the house!  I also could drink plain water all day long. Now I have to have flavored water to get it down.

Although the Premiere Protein chocolate is still the only protein drink I can tolerate, I can barely fini**** without the chocolate starting to taste like something else.

Hello

Wednesday will mark my 4 weeks post RNY.

I have to admit that I love the taste of everything right now.

I savour every bit.  At times I find getting the water in is a chore. I really enjoy my warm teas but quite honestly, I am a bit worried about venturing back to my decaf coffee as it made my stomach sick while on the pre surgery shakes.

The Costco Premiere Protein shakes are a hit or miss.  I find at times they taste a bit strange.  They are my GO TO because they are easy & ready to go!???  At (3) daily.

I buy them at Costco for $26 with the coupon. Going through a case a week thanks to my sons.

My surgery roommate found Premiere strawberry in Ogdenburg, NY Walmart. (4) for 6.95 US seemed costly after the exchange.

She said they were a refreshing change.  I have progressed to soft diet but still seem to enjoy my puréed diet favourites.

I have been unsuccessful in finding a Protein Powder that is vegan, & natural unflavoured.  I am going to Florida in March. Perhaps I will be successful there.

I am so far behind you right now.  I am worried about finding high protein based soups while in Florida.

Take care

Sandra

I have to doctor the Premier protein drinks to get them down - add some SF syrup or pudding. I loved them pre-op.

When i was  MO before RNY I could eat pretty much the same food every day.  And I was always surprised when some of my skinny friends would rather not eat than eat food they got "tired off".

With RNY - when I got to be more "normal" - app 1 year postop - I found out that my body changed and so my taste buds.  Not only I found some foods unacceptable  long term - but for me how that food taste changed.

One day I would be eating I.e. chicken and loving it ....2 days later the same chicken would make want to hurl.

I very quickly learned to listen to my body. I would get the "don't you dare" with a sniff test...

8 years later - I no longer need to "sniff test". I can now think of some food, remember the taste and smell and my body would be "hell no"... Or just "nope"..Etc.

I no longer can eat the same food day after day. Protein shakes? That's a big "no". Premier protein shakes used to be my to go drink... Now - nope. A couple of weeks ago Costco was sampling some of them. I tried. ..One small sip. Nope. No go.

Now - close to 9 years post op - I rather be hungry than eat some foods I got tired of.

But ...If I wait a week, a month or 2 or a year -i can eat it again.

But so far - did not got tired of my coffee..

I actually like more foods I would have never touched before (red pickled cabbage, khombucha fermented tea, etc)

I no longer like the taste of potatoes. They taste like crap to me in any form.

most breads also taste bad to me. which is a great thing...

I can't find a protein drink at all!  I've tried everything that I can get my hands on, and nope.  None of them.  I just can't get past the smell, I think.

I'm getting pretty tired of water, so I use the flavor packets or drops

I'm still in love with my coffee, and I seem to be drinking more of it now than before....probably has something to do with the sweating.  Pre WLS, I would sweat anytime I drank something hot, but now....nope....I'm good!

I was a sweet-a-holic pre surgery.  There was not a sugar or carb I didn't like! Especially sugar,  and preferably in the form of birthday cake, donuts and candy.

Post surgery everything seemed way to sweet for me. I could not even get the premier protein drinks past my nose.  I ate a lot of bland things, apple sauce, cottage cheese, tuna.  Then I started to crave and I mean CRAVE savory!  I wanted Thai food, Indian Food, Mexican food, Sushi with tons of wasabi, Middle Eastern food!  I still love all the savory foods but unfortunately for me at about 18 months/2 years post of my sweet tooth came back and it came back with a vengeance.

I can't stand cottage cheese now, never did like RTD (ready to drink) protein shakes and for me its not so much that my tastes have changed more so what my pouch can tolerate and not tolerate. Eggs and ground beef sit very heavy for me. I have to go slow with eggs in a restaurant and I can't order a burger out, 2 bites and it feels like a brick in my pouch. Oh and cucumbers, I loved them pre surgery and ate them a lot, can't tolerate them now.

Good luck, it might change again as you get further out
