I have a three week preop liquid diet (yay... its fun i know.) and besides the basics what will I need to help me stay focused during and immediately following surgery?

After surgery I move from liquid to purees about 3-4 days post op, any tips? things to try?

Sorry I have recieved my binder going into detail with all of these things, but I still can't help but think that I will forget something and be lost afterwards?

Also what did you guys take with you to the hospital?

For the hospital take your cell phone, charger and a tube of chapstick.

After surgery, have some canned broth and your protein shake on hand.  What you puree will depend on your clinic's program.  I was on liquids for two weeks and used two small cans of broth, a half gallon of skim milk and my protein powder.

I was also allowed sugarfree pudding and jello and had that for some meals.  Sugarfree popsicles are also good to have on hand.

As far as what to take to the hospital, not much. I agree with cell phone, charger, chapstick, a tablet if you have one and use it. A robe is a must, in my opinion. Everything else they will pretty much supply you with. I always appreciate taking a favorite fragrance lotion  ... the fragrance is comforting and I like my lotion better than the generic the hospital will have.

As as far as food to have on hand afterwards, I bought way too much stuff. You're really eating so little food the at week or two, it's so easy to overestimate. Also, I've always been used to buying the biggest package of whatever now still trying to get used to buying the smallest so things don't go bad. I made some homemade chicken broth before surgery and froze it in 1/4 cup containers. it was better to have my own and I'm sure it was more nutritious than anything I could buy. I lived on sugar free applesauce and jello that first week or two. It was nice to have Some crystal lite packets for when you just can't stand to sip more plain water. Skim milk and protein shakes. That's about all you will need or want for the first week or so. Be prepared that your tastes will change after surgery so things you love now maybe not so much afterwards. And, especially for the first few days, the smell of food cooking literally made me ill.

I did stock up on the small food containers. They are a great thing to have on hand for making sugar free jello or pudding and for portioning out food. I still use them all the time. Glade makes round ones that are 4 oz. round with lids and ziplock has square ones that are 4 oz but also marks for 1/4 cup and 50/75 ml. The square ones stack better in the refrigerator, imo. Either are a great thing to have on hand. I still use them everyday.

Youll do fine ... best of luck!

Find liquid tylenol.  The pain meds from the doctor made me sick.  You may have to special order it as most liquid tylenol is sweetened.

I brought a bunch of clothing and other stuff that stayed in the cabinet. I used my own toothbrush as the one they give you stinks. Toothpaste, shaver and phone charger. The rest of the stuff was just stuff I dragged in and out of the hospital.

Dont buy too much ahead. I still have cans of stuff on the shelf untouched.  Just have some broth on hand and see how you feel.

Good luck
