Weird water question

Making fruit infused water helped me to get more "natural " flavor into my water. I used strawberries, lemon, oranges , cucumbers.. plus herbal teas. Even a touch of lemon juice helped to get the water in.

I am 3 yrs post op and I still can't drink plain water and ice water pre surgery was my go to, I drank that by the buckets.

Post surgery I used half apple juice with half water. Now I drink glasses & glasses of cold water (b/c I like my water cold) with a splash of SF (Sugar Free) cranberry juice, also called "Diet".  In the summer I have an infuser bottle (like the pic below) and I will put in fresh strawberries or raspberries and its so yummy.  And if you don't want sweet, use lemon, lime, cucumber or mint in your water for flavour.

A lot of people use the water enhancers, Mio, Crystal light etc. I found a peach ice tea crystal light that is awesome.  You could also get SF ice tea and do half water have ice tea.  You can make any herbal tea cold or hot, and any coffee "iced" if you drink coffee.  One of our menu posters Kat W uses Grape "Crrush" drops (like the pop Orange crush) water enhancer drops, I have not found them yet but I love grape flavour so I am on the hunt for it!!

Protien shakes count towards liquids as well.  And at my centre they considered SF Popsicle as "liquids" as long as they are sugar free.

As for the Miralax, it takes a few days to get into your system and get moving.  I LOVE Miralax and use it daily. I put a level capful in my morning coffee and I stir the hell out of it and I can't taste a thing. So not sure what you mixed yours with but you should not be tasting it.

Best of luck, you don't want to get dehydrated.  You need to make drinking liquids a job!!

I find it so strange most people that have had the surgery have difficulty drinking plain water. Don't worry, I'm in the same boat. Concord Grape crystal light is delicious. LOL!

A desperate text to Daisy in the first week after surgery, I was saying exactly the same thing. She told me about surface tension and I went out and bought drops. It made a huge difference! In the last few days, I've found that I like water really cold with lime juice but I will be keeping the flavour drops in my purse for when I'm out.

Okay, it has been a long day and I cannot read what everyone else wrote as I am tired.

For myself even at almost 14 years out I have difficulty drinking any liquid. I have to drink it slowly or it comes back up on me. On rare occasions I can drink it a "little" fast. I really watch it. Many times it will come back up on me and it is not pleasant. I try to make sure that I do not get real thirsty . . . that does not always happen as "life" happens for all and we get busy.

Congrats - you will get a handle on your everyday life - BUT it will still be a learning experience EVEN when you are as far out as my husband and I - 2003 (May for me and Sept for Dave). My husband eats way too fast sometimes because he "forgets" to eat. I hardly ever forget to eat as I love food bu****ch my every bite!

PS - I have 20 oz water bottles that I sip all day long and drink a minimum of close to five a day so I am not getting dehydrated. My DH and I have a little battle as to how many we drink. HAHA I am forever washing bottles.

Thought I would offer an update.  I'm almost 7 weeks out now.  and I can now drink water!!!  I'm drinking like a champ.  I tried all of the crystal lights and I can't do them.  I tried them at different strengths and it was still repulsive to my tongue.  I'm super sensitive to aspertame right now.

I tried the drops.  The ones with stevia are so-so, but didn't really help.

What worked you ask?  Time.  Apparently, my stomach was and probably still is healing.  But the time has made a big difference to me.

And just to prove it was time, two weeks ago I would vomit if I drank a sip of protein drink.  This week, I've been able to tolerate them.  I'm hoping in a few more weeks that I can drink them no problem.

I know we are all different, but I did want to give people who just went through the surgery some hope.  It can get better.
