The next step to healthy...smoking cessation
So, I had RNY so I wouldn't die from obesity related medical issues.
Got to thinking a couple weeks ago.....Why would you go to such extreme measures to be healthy, but you still smoke?????
So, I found out that my company actually has a company that will help you facilitate smoking cessation with your doctor, and my company pays for all meds, gums, lozenges, patches, etc.
Well, folks, today I had my phone appointment with the pharmacist that is helping facilitate with my doctor. She is recommending Chantix and patches for me and will be sending all of the necessary information to my PCP for his approval. I called PCP to let them know what was going on, and I asked them to give me a call if they needed me to come in and see PCP before he approved. I'll be happy to do it!!! Hopefully, soon, I'll be a non-smoker, and even more healthy than I was planning on being to start with.
Keep me in your thoughts, please. This is the next step to healthy.

Over the years I had quite twice for 5yrs on my own, but always had that " I really miss it."........sad feeling and when things got stressful I went back.
I used Chantix about 8yrs ago and never looked back. I'm pretty positive I will never smoke again. It worked well for me. I didn't have the sadness that I had other times. It's worth a try if you haven't tried it before.
I was very glad I quit long before i had the surgery...its hard...but you are right....you arent being very "healthy" as you could be at the moment.
I m sending happy, positive vibes your way !!!!!! YOU CAN DO IT !!!!

I hope you are able to quit. I've never smoked at all, so I can't identify with it. But I've seen how badly people struggle with it.
I had a horrible ulcer a year ago, and lost 6 or 7 units of blood. A few doctors were convinced I had to be a smoker, since it's a leading cause. So if you didn't already have enough reason to quit, add that one to your pile.

I had my first meeting with my surgeon on September 21st last year and I had quit smoking on May 23rd. I had been a smoker for over 22 years. My surgeon told me that he would not do RNY surgery on anyone who smoked. He also told me that if I thought that I would ever smoke again that we would not do RNY for me, that he would only do the Sleeve. Isn't it funny how different each surgeon's rules are.
I quit smoking with Chantix. I actually smoked the first 2 weeks while I was taking it. Once I quit smoking I took another month of Chantix (1 pill twice a day) and the next month I went down to 1 pill once a day. So I was actually on it for 3 months. I was lucky and my insurance paid for all of it.
I changed my smoking habit in to a sunflower seed habit and then had to break myself of that habit as well. I had to have something to do especially while driving.
I wish you the best of luck!!! It is hard, but you can do it.

I'm currently trying to quit myself. I tried Chantix and even though I didn't have any side effects, it just didn't work on me. I'm now doing the patches, gum and a little vaping. I haven't quit totally but I'm a work in progess. Driving is my all time hardest time. Do you have any pointers? What do you do now that helps while driving? I used to smoke 2 in a 15 minute ride. Ugh!

I was a very heavy smoker -- 3 packs a day!!
I quit 12 years ago -- in fact, my quit anniversary was this week. I have an 11 year old sleeping who can't imagine me as a smoker -- he's never seen me do it.
You can do this. I promise, it is so worth it.
