Question regarding rate of weight Loss
I had my RNY on Nov 28th 2016. I was 243 at the time of surgery.
After I lost a bit the first the few weeks and stalled. I am now stalled again and weight 218. I see a lot of people have lost a lost more then me in this time frame. Is this a bad rate of loss?
I was eating around 600 calories a day and my NUT recommended around 700-800 which I am able to do. I keep my carbs pretty low with them coming from veggies or fruits for my smoothies and sometime a few grams of sugar of honey or a sugar packet (I do not like the taste of fake sugars) I eat around 32 sugar grams a day.
My doc does allow whole grain breads or brown rice but I do it at the most once a week.
My protein is around 70 a day.
Any tips or advice would be great.

Skip the smoothies. We need to be eating protein first and foremost.

I would dump the fruits/smoothies.

Everyone loses at different rates. A lot depends on your starting weight, type of procedure (proximal or distal) and how much activity. People who have a lot more to lose will lose more weight faster. Stalls, well they happen to everyone. However, certain foods can cause you to stall. Looking at what you are doing, I would question you on what types of fruits are you using in your smoothies? If they are berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries) then fine. But, if you are adding bananas and other high sugar fruits, this could be a culprit. Also, I would use agave vs honey. Agave is sweeter, so you can use less. While the calories are similar, you would have to use more honey for sweetness than agave.
What kind of veggies are you eating? If it is corn and veggies that have high carbs, this could also be a factor in your stall. I stick to non-starchy veggies at all times. If I do corn at all, I cut all other carbs out for that day. Also, stick to dense proteins on all meals.
I use frozen blueberries mostly and add in spinach too. Agave to me prior to surgery has a odd taste but I haven't tried it recently so will give it another try in a smoothie I might not notice it. For honey I use one stick which is 20 calories and 4 sugars.
For veggies I tend to go green so spinach, cucumber, zucchini, squash, and sometimes cabbage.
So you've lost 25lbs in less than 2 months? That's great! Try not to compare yourself to others who may be taller/shorter/heavier/thinner etc. Everyone is different. If you are following your plan, stick to it.
I'm 1 month out and lost 13lbs. That's great for me, as I lost a bunch before surgery and really don't have that much to lose.
Keep up the good work and stop comparing yourselves to others :)

Hey there! We had RNY on the same day, and our surgery weights are pretty close. (within one pound!)
I've kind of had the same type of stalls as you. Up and down, then down down down. I think it has something to do with my cycle. I don't know why you're experiencing a stall at the moment, but I would cut out all breads and rice.
We only have a short window of time to lose all the weight we can, and then, the honeymoon is over. You should jump on over to the menu thread and see what other people are eating. Here's my menu for the day:
Breakfast: Cottage cheese, sausage links
Snack: hard salami, string cheese, baby dill pickles
Lunch: steak
Dinner: steak and green beans
Snack: hard salami, string cheese, baby dill pickles
Most of the people on the menu thread were doing CAMAW and AMAW last week, and I decided to kind of stick to it...with the exception of the green beans and pickles. (I need them to keep the gut moving!)
I've noticed that since eating like this, I am dropping a couple of pounds every two or three days.
My calories are under 1000, but I am getting plenty of dense protein. Carbs will make you more hungry, so I avoid them.
How is your liquid intake? I am striving for 100 oz a day, and I find that it's pretty tough, but I'm getting closer. The more fluids you drink, the less fluid you retain.
Maybe this will help! Good Luck!!!

Why are you indicating that there is a defined window of opportunity to lose? A honeymoon period? I have gathered that as time goes on you can eat more, but can you explain more.about what you mean?
Several factors contributed to the 'honeymon period' which is 12 - 18 months usually.
- in the beginning your pouch is very small, swollen from surgery. Naturally over time the swelling goes down and your pouch can handle more. This is supposed to happen, the early days of eating 2 or 3 bites and being full won't last forever.
- Malabsorption of calories is greatest in the beginning. Diminishes over the 12-18 months, so we need to learn good habits in the beginning as we will be relying more on restriction the further out we are. My understanding is we continue to malabsorb a certain amount of fat.
- The third is my personal belief that we and our bodies get used to the 'new normal'. If I think of any diet I was ever on and I had lost significant amounts before...I could always lose the most the first year.
Not to say you can't lose past that time, it just isn't as easy as it is in the beginning.
