Constipated & stuck
It fluctuates... for me I never do less than a cap... Sometimes I can do up to 2 capfuls...or anything inbetween.... I also base it on what has been happening in the bathroom department... Occasionally if nothing is happening I take the second dose at night...

At one point, when I was this bound up, I called the doc office for advice. the nurse told me to take multiple doses of Milk of Mag...what I mean is one dose w/8oz of water.. an hour later, another dose w/8 oz of water... continue until I found relief. ( I don't remember what the limit was... maybe 5 times) said not to make a practice of this, but, do it times of distress. I think it only took me 3 doses before I found relief.
Coffee enema. Works every time. Google it for tips, tricks, and ideas!
Good luck!

I felt like this last week - milk of magnesia worked to get things moving again.

I feel your pain (or have felt it, I should say). I suffered terrible constipation, even before surgery, and it just got worse with a high protein diet. I ended up having a fissure and needing a lateral internal sphincterotomy last Sept. It was not pleasant, you do not want to get to this place!! My best advice is a capful of Miralax every morning (talk to your doc though). Good luck.
