Psych Behavioral Assessment??
When I was scheduling my Psych appointment I was told I would be with the Psychiatrist for 45 minutes and then take a test for another 45 min. A "TEST", what is that all about? Is it a pass/fail type of test? Has anyone not passed it and had it keep them from being able to get RNY? Just a little nervous now... I don't test well.

The only difference between "extraordinary" and "ordinary" is that little "extra"!!
You just have to answer a lot of questions about yourself. I didn't think much about it when I did mine. It was just answering questions about myself.

I filled out a 5 page list of questions about my history. It didn't really take 45 minutes but my appointment was for 90 minutes. She told me that the things they look for are like depression, anxiety, untreated eating disorders like binging. I did have certain signs of depression, but after speaking with her about my situation and reasons for feeling sad at times, she was certain that I was a good RNY candidate.
Relax, it's not judgement, it's an assessment. :-)

Pain in the butt questionnaire, but it's livable. I had to do mine before I came to the appointment.
A lot of us had to take the MMPI, but that takes longer than 45 minutes.
Answer honestly, and it will work out for you. Try to hide anything, you'll get held up.

At my doctor office, we didn't have any test or questionnaire. I did ask my Psych what they were looking when I was through and cleared and she said mainly signs that you weren't ready or able - like severe eating/emotional/personal issues or stressful situations in your life that wouldn't support surgery, recovery or success.
Good luck!

Mine took about 35 minutes. The psychiatrist is looking for addictive behavior, anger issues, untreated depression and support system. They are just making sure you have a grasp on what is needed to make this life change successful long term. I was worried but turned fine.

i had to take a 350 question test, have it sent out for grading, then had to meet with psyc.
most of the questions want to find out what is your true mental state, would you hurt yourself or someone else.
I'm sure you will be fine. they also want to find out your attitude about food (its not the end of the world to get help for eating issues). After all we all have come to this surgery due to some issues with food.
I passed the pass/fail test which involved nothing more than questions about past weight loss methods, family history, and what kind of positive support system there would be in place at home after surgery. I was repeatedly asked if I had past or current suicidal tendencies (self-harm responses might have been a failing grade). No doubt, evaluation methods vary from office to office. Good Luck.
