Carbohydrates

During weight loss I counted my protein grams and fluid ounces and that is it. while I didn't count my carbs I stuck to low carb by my choices and always checked the carbs and sugars on packaged items. I did what I called My Fitness Pal 'spot checks' for a week periodically to see where I was at, and I was never over 50 carbs.

My Doc's mantra is: Protein first then veggies, and the IF you have any room left fruit then carbs. So he said never said no carbs but put it at the end of the list... and in the beginning you have less room, so there really is no 'getting to it'... During weight loss I did eat an occasional carb.... not daily or even weekly...occasional.

Now I am in maintenance I do incorporate more carbs, but I have to be really careful which ones- both from a scale viewpoint, and the slippery slope of trigger foods... that is very individual...trail and error.

Around 50 g in the winter, around 100 g in the summer (when I bike a lot).  But then again I am almost 6 years out.  I have got to tell you, anyone who is saying eat oatmeal or fruit or "healthy carbs" doesn't have that kind of time under their belt... or is really lucky if they do.  Carbs and sugar (even so-called "healthy" or "natural" sugar) are not good for our messed-up metabolisms for the most part.
