What's on your Menu today (Tuesday) RNYers? DAY 2 of AMAW/CAMAW
on 1/17/17 6:59 am, edited 1/17/17 11:43 am
Good morning everyone. It's lovely to *see you all today!
First, to answer the QOTD: Sadly, I can completely relate to your situation. My mother, who is 75, is morbidly obese and obsessed with food. She talks incessantly about what she is going to eat, or how she "cannot understand how she is overweight because she eats so little."
Yes. It is a medical mystery how a completely sedentary woman who considers the walk from her chair to the bathroom strenuous, but eats an average of 3500 to 4000 calories per day is overweight.
The issue is that she is a diabetic, has high blood pressure, tachycardia, early stage CHF, and has two or three ischemic attacks (mini strokes). She has recently begun to have neuropathy pains in her legs. She claims to suffer from IBS/Crohn's, but really, it's her horrible diet combined with the high likelihood that her intestines are also affected by her neuropathy. She had knee replacement surgery about 15 years ago -- and she definitely needs it again. I don't think it's safe to do it at her current weight.
I worry about her constantly.
Okay, back to AMAW Day 2 -- Here's my planned menu for the day, and like yesterday, I will edit with accurate measures/pics and corrections.

Its lovely to "see" you today too Kat!
Thank you for sharing the story about your Mom, so much of what you wrote resonates with me. On top of my Dad being MO I have several other family members who are MO as well and like your Mom one Aunt of mine continues to be dumbfounded that she can't eat Cesear salads with gobs of dressing and croutons and litres of "frozen Yogurt" and not not lose a pound. SO FRUSTRATING!!!! And yet a day does not go by that I also don't worry and stress and think the next phone call is going to be "that" phone call of someone telling me that my Aunt is gone and all due to her obesity and her obesity related complications UGH!!
I have to say I wish I could drink two coffees for lunch, but I find I am really hungry by lunch, I can easily skip breakfast, I am not hungry then but lunch I like. Your menu super impresses me and I might have to copy you! Your shrimp look yummy, I love shrimp!!!
Great menu and totals and Congrats on the 3.1 lbs loss already, you are kicking butt girl!!!
Looking forward to what yummy goodness you post for Day 3!

Well, you gave me the idea to have shrimp for breakfast! I copied YOU!
I love shrimp, too -- and they give a lot of bang for the buck -- low in calories but high in protein. Gotta love that!
I was starving by lunch -- but unfortunately, I was called in for an emergency and there was nothing I could do.
I am certain that 3 lbs is water weight -- but I will take it.

Good morning menu peeps and carnivores. I didn't get a chance to post yesterday because it was MLK Day, which means it's volunteer day for me. I worked at the Red Cross packing blood collection kits. My company arranges volunteer work for employees in the community during MLK week every year. This year we had 900 employees at 45 sites here in the Portland and SW Washington area. It is always a lot of fun.
i'm sorry that you are still not feeling well, Daisy. It sounds like you might be running a fever, so be careful. There are some nasty viruses making the rounds. Take care of yourself, and stay home! You need to rest, and not share with others. This stuff spreads easily. Dr. Schwab orders bed rest, fluids and Netflix.
We are still snowed in here, and the roads are horrible. They are predicting freezing rain today, and then heavy rain that will melt the snow and ice and cause urban flooding. Ugh! Today and tomorrow will be interesting. I am working from home today because this ain't my first rodeo, and I am not getting stuck at work in an ice storm. Or on the road with crazy drivers.
i wish I had some sage advice about losing weight and keeping it off. I know how to lose weight that's easy. Reduce calories. What I never could do was keep it off long term. So the weight came back + more, until I felt hopeless about ever being successful. RNY was the only thing that offered any chance of getting my chronic disease of obesity under control. Not cured, but with dedication and hard work, controlled. Breast cancer was what finally convinced me that I had to make a big move. Maybe your Dad's heart condition will be what inspires him. Does his cardiologist have a nutrition and diet program/ support? Most here in the US do to help patients make the necessary lifestyle changes after diagnosis. You might check into that.
CAMAW went really well yesterday I only ate what I planned, and yet I was up 1 pound this morning. Stupid, lying scale. Oh well, onward and hopefully downward. Eventually.

the volunteering sounds awesome, what a great cause. Can't believe you are still stuck at home with that crazy weather, please be safe!
So much nasty flu and cold bugs going around here, I promise you I am resting and being a good girl LOL
Exactly what you said, I am hoping that Dad's heart condition will finally be the kick in the pants he needs to do something about his weight. And I am getting on the phone tomorrow to find out about the dietitian and or diet support with the program and see what can be done, thanks for the suggestion. I can't believe I didn't even think about that, I guess when its happening to you it hard to see the bigger picture so thank you!
I bet you will step on the scale and be down 2-3 tomorrow, scales are weird and fickle!
Lunch!!!! Crab stuffed lobster, OMG YES!!!! Your menu makes me drool, its all sounds so good! Keep up the great work. Your totals are amazing, 91 protein and 6 carbs, YES 6 carbs. Wicked MA!!!

Good morning everyone! So yesterday was my first protein shake free day since surgery and even though I've been mainly all meat anyway adding more to replace the shake was a challenge. The turkey sausage I had for breakfast was basically just a big hot dog as far as flavour is concerned and the remainder of the package has been gifted to my bf. His excitement was tempered a bit after he read turkey on the package but whatever, he'll eat them. I also didn't eat the second turkey bite that I had on my menu. They're delicious but I just didn't feel like I wanted/needed it. After breakfast a took another turkey sausage out of the pack to stand in for my daily pic and had an interesting moment standing there looking at my food for the entire day in one pile. The angel on my shoulder was whispering "good plan but I'm not sure I can eat all that"... on the other shoulder "yeah right, that's not enough food for a day!!". One thing I did miss was coffee but I don't have the stomach for it without creamer just yet so I decided to skip it this week. I can survive without it... my bf might have a different opinion but I doubt he'll mention it. Lol
Today's plan
B - shrimp
L - shrimp
D - pork back ribs (haven't tried ribs yet but they look amazing)
S - 2 turkey bites, 3 slices oven roasted deli chicken
totals 535 cal, 66g protein, 2g carbs
My protein numbers are a little lower without the shakes but I'll get there. Yesterdays food...
Have a great Tuesday everyone!!

good job on our menu from yesterday Fozzie. I loved your analogy on the angel & devil on your shoulders and the dialogue on too much food/not enough food, for the record that happens to me at 3 years out, its a "thing."
I also am doing black coffee this week in support of going full AMAW, I am a huge coffee drinker so there is no way I would give up coffee totally, I would rather drink that black sludge then not drink it at all LOL Watch for caffeine headache though, those suck!!
Great menu, another menu crew who loves shrimp. Tell us how the ribs are, I love ribs and am always looking for good recommendations.
Keep up the great work, looking forward to your menu & pics tomorrow!
Good morning, I have to be quick because I forgot my work computer at home and my hubbie had to drop it off (which took forever). Kids are at home due to school being cancelled for the second day in a row due to ice. Ugh. I slid down my driveway this morning but the main roads were fine. I am up lots. I need to concentrate on my eating and exercising.
Time since surgery: 2 1/2 years
B: Skinny latte and breakfast sausage
S: Fitjoy bar
L: Panera Thai Chicken salad, no won tons, double chicken
S: String cheese
D: Pork chops and green beans
S: NO NIGHT SNACK!
W/V: Started
E: Trainer ride probably an hour
Have a great day all!
