What's on your Sunday menu, RNYers?
on 1/15/17 4:55 pm
I'm sorry to hear about your husband! I am glad you are able to be there for him and wish you both a wonderful LONG retirement!! P.S. Retirement AND Florida-double jealous now
Good Morning Menu Friends....BRR it is cold here going to be a high of 30... I wish we would just get the big 3 feet of snow and be done with it! This going back and forth is to much work for me how many layers to I wear blah, blah blah....
Glad you liked Hidden Figures my husband and I wanted to see that as well. We saw La La Land last weekend with our daughter and loved it, but then again as my daughter would say Ryan Gosling he's attractive right?
QOTD: I have a couple of go to things when I am bored one is I read do not have the time to read like I used to and I don't know why we are empty nesters you would think I would have more free time but I don't maybe because I spend more time exercising and cooking food and not eating take out . The other thing I do is watch Dance Mom's why you ask? My daughter used to watch it when she was a teenager and I faked interest in it as an chance to hang out with her. Now I find myself turning on when I can't find anything else on the TV to watch. Those people are terrible and mean thank the good lord I did not turn out like them and I could have based on some of the theater moms I was around while my daughter was growing up. Hum... My 90 year old grandmother still knits maybe I should ask her to teach me how and ditch the Dance Mom's hobby.
Food for the day:
B- Scrambled Eggs w/cheese
S- Apple Slices
L- 2 oz Deli Ham
D- Chili
Stay warm and to all my menu friends dealing with the bad weather today please stay safe.... Today may be a good day for indoor activities!
Morning!
I started watching the first 5 minutes of series of unfortunate events, and stopped because I think my husband will enjoy it too, so I'm saving it. Glad you liked hidden figures, I think we're going to watch it today!
We went for dinner at a friend's place last night that was definitely not wls friendly. Pasta. With a rose sauce. With bacon. And garlic bread. And Cesar salad. It was fine though, I tried some of the sauce and ate some salad. Turns out they didn't know I'd had surgery, even though I assumed my husband told her husband. my loving, slightly clueless, husband only told him something vague about how I was on a strict diet. The wife felt terrible, because even that info hadn't been passed along to her... great fun evening though, just a blip for me, but I'm sure there was a conversation after we left about communication haha.
one of my favorite effects of surgery is how food is such a small part of an event for me now, rather than the focus.
qotd: having juuussst said the above, cooking is still a hobby of mine hahaha. I love trying new recipes, reading about food and culture (side bar: Gravy Train is a great podcast for anyone interested in southern food and history and modern culture)
I also started painting in the last year or so. I'm terrible but it's fun, and it's wild to see how much you can actually improve. I also got back into sewing, and I think my next project is curtains for our guest room, and if they aren't terrible, I'll try some for the living room. My husband and I will also play games sometimes in the evening.
Not so much in winter, but we also have a tiny garden that keeps us occupied in summer. And my sister has a huge garden on my parents farm I help with too on weekends. And do a lot of preserving in fall.
Being active in general is something we're working building into our daily schedule too. The Canadian guideline currently suggests a minimum of 120 minutes (=5x30min)a week of moderate intensity cardio (meaning you can say a few words, but can't carry on a conversation) plus a minimum of two strength training type sessions a week.
And I have a senior dog.
All that to say, I'm never bored. Haha
Menu:
B:protein shake
L: chicken salad with veggies
D: tbd not sure when my sister in law is leaving.
have great day everyone!

Yesterday I ended up getting out in the ice to take my boxer Lily to the vet for a biopsy of a lump on her belly. Results should be in in 3 to 5 days. Vet says it could be benign or a mast cell tumor so we wait to see. Boxers are prone to them, especially females who have had pups and Lily was a breeder in a puppy mill. So prayers or healing thoughts or swinging chickens would be appreciated. Last night I struggled with wanting to eat my feelings but I drank water, coffee and hot herbal tea and read a book and started knitting a pair of boot toppers. Lily and I will hopefully get to walk our 3.2 miles if the freezing rain holds off. If not I will do 3.2 miles on the treadmill like I did yesterday. I hate that treadmill--even with TV it's just so boring. Post op 4 years 4.5 months and weight at 117.4 today. Here's the eats for today B 1/2 c steel cut oats with protein and peanut butter added L 1 c chili D 31/2 oz baked fish 1/2 c sweet potatoes S mission one chocolate brownie protein bar. QOTD when bored I walk with Lily, read a good book,do adult coloring or knit. Sometimes I also play games on my tabletreadmill. Have a great day everyone and make the choices that move you one step closer to your goal!
Crossing my fingers for Lily.
