Stretched too much
I had lapband revision to RNY on December 7, 2016. When I went to puréed foods 17 days later I began vomiting all my food. Things progressed to where I couldn't keep liquids down. As I suspected I had a stricture. That was easily resolved this week but I'm wondering if the GI doc was a little over zealous with the balloon. He said he stretched to 12mm, which I understand to be standard, but I wonder if he accounted for existing inflammation from all my vomiting. Is it possible to over stretch the area where the stricture was and negate any effects of the surgery? I ask because now my pouch is able to tolerate any dense protein I've thrown at it with no complaints.
12mm is very small. Average starting out is about 19mm or the size of a dime. You should have no problems eating dense protein by now. RNY is not like a lap band where things get stuck. Sounds like you are doing fine. The real weight loss is from eating less, not from restriction or stoma size.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
This comment makes me smile - the fact that you said food doesn't get stuck like the lap band - that is the one question I was wondering about - and never got an answer.
My revision from Lap band to RNY is Jan 23rd :)
Thank you

It's lost in space! I completely agree, mine has been causing reflux problems and I'm so glad to be at the point where it's ready to come out...it's been 9 months worth of visits and documentation etc. Phew! Good luck with yours as well...are they taking it out and doing the RNY at the same time?

I am sooooo on board with everyone and the whole getting stuck thing!!! The LapBand worked well for me at first, for several years, but the restrictions on foods and the getting stuck part was just so annoying. I had completely desensitized myself to throwing up. I'm so glad after having RNY on December 9th, that the band is gone and the whole "stuck" thing is gone with it!!!
