Appetite in the morning?
How long do you wait before you eat in the morning?
My RD wants me to eat within 30 minutes of waking - I don't know about the rest of you but that just isn't how my body likes to work. I'm not hungry first thing, and prefer to get some coffee in first. Also I'm a crap sleeper, so sometimes I wake up at 3am for a couple of hours, which means I'd be eating around 3:30...and then going back to sleep. Not ideal.
So I was thinking about it this morning, and wondering.....when do you guys eat? Do you roll out of bed and munch immediately, or do you get your morning ritual done (shower, makeup, dropping the kids off at the pool ) and then eat?
Inquiring minds want to know!

I typically wake up around 4:20am. I get up, have my morning tea with miralax and milk, cruise FB for 30 min, then go do 30 min of yoga. Then I get ready, wake up my kids, pack my lunch and drive to work. I don't usually eat breakfast until 0730 when I get to work, I find that if I eat at home earlier I cannot eat enough to stay satisfied until lunch time. But that's just me.
I've tried both ways, and have felt starving by 9am, which doesn't work for me.

I almost always hated breakfast. Way before RNY.
Post op - my pouch hated any food including protein shakes. But ...Since my nutritionist insisted we need breakfast - for my first 2 years I "ate" breakfast. Often getting sick after eating/drinking my "breakfast" .
I was told I got fat before RNY because I was not eating breakfast. And since I promised myself to do almost anything the center would tell me to do...I ate/drank my breakfast. Often - fighting the horrible nausea..Before and after. I reached my goal in 10 months and lost beyond my goal.
App 2-3 years post op I got sick and tired of being sick and tired after forcing "food" in me first thing in the morning. So now - I don't. But since I get more hungry in evenings - I often eat late. As late as 9 pm..Or later on some days.
But now I don't start eating until lunch time... Or later. My body does good on that schedule. Plus with my IBS - not eating for 14 hours in every 24 hour (from 9-10 pm one day till 12 or later the other day) allows me to drink more liquids in the morning ... Between my coffee and my "lunch,". I still make sure I get enough proteins and fats.
For first year or 2 - I followed my center guidelines. For me - it was the right thing to do.

I've totally changed since WLS. Pre-op I needed to eat pretty much right away or I would feel very ill. Now I get up between 4:30-5 a.m., do my workout, shower, get dressed and then have my breakfast about 6:30. Breakfast for me is a BIG cup of decaf coffee w/protein powder pre-mixed as my creamer/sweetener. I'll drink water and diet iced tea throughout the morning and then eat lunch around 11:30-12. Works for me, but you will need to find what works for you. I've never heard a requirement to eat within 30 minutes. I'm a lousy sleeper too. Last night I woke up at 2:15 a.m. and forced myself to stay in bed until 4:30, but never went back to sleep. It's going to be a long day!

I'm curious about this decaf coffee with premixed protein powder, do you just make it up before hand and drink it cold, or heated up, or are you pre-mixing a protein powder and milk to make the creamer?

The decaf coffee is hot (fresh from the coffee maker) - I make it a little stronger than I normally would (about 3.5 T of coffee for 3 cups of water). I mix a scoop of the protein powder with warm (not hot or it will curdle) water and pour it in my coffee. I like creamy, sweet coffee so this ratio works for me. If you like you coffee on the darker side, maybe just go with 1/2 a scoop and or less water. You could use milk for some extra protein but I like it with water fine.

I'm going to try this! My coffee needs to be tan, not black ;)

I heat up a Premier Protein drink and mix it with my coffee... for me works better than the powder as long as I remember not to overheat it. Still gives me both - protein and coffee.
I have always eaten something before leaving the house for the day. I wake around 5AM and eat around 6:30-7AM. I take medication upon waking that I have to take on an empty stomach-- so eating right out of bed isn't an option (and seem weird to be anyway).
Beyond eat 3 more time for the day, usually around 10:30am; 2pm, and dinner in the evening at about 6:30/7PM.
