Ok, no one wants to talk about it but I need some advice.

Ever since my surgery I seem to need Miralax daily or I get constipated.  2.5 months in I'm ready to get rid of it.  Does it happen by itself in time?  I've tried Psyllium and prunes.  I need the Miralax to be half "regular."  Hate the dependency!

I had surgery in May and can now do miralax every other  day or so. Many need it daily. You have to poop so just go with it for now. Increase your water if possible and don't be scared of fat.

Thank you for posting this!  It's one of those things we think about but hate to put it out there in the public.  5 weeks post and have wondered the same thing.  Some days Milalax doesn't even work and there's got to be something else to take.

I'm 4 months out and take Mirolax every day.  If I don't I can't go.  Then it takes a couple of days to get back into my system.  I have accepted the fact that I will always need it. I have a glass of crystal light every morning with it.  So it helps my water intake.  It's a small price to pay for what I've  gained.  Down 54 lbs.

Funny that you said no one wants to talk about constipation on the boards.  If you do a search, you will see that we talk about it ALL of the time.  The reason is because all of us have struggled with it from time to time, particularly early out.  You will find that everyone's experience differs a bit.  After 6 or 8 months, some people don't need Miralax or stool softners, and some still take one or both every day.  I am two years out and I take a stool softner every day.  It is just part of my routine.  Don't worry about becoming dependent if you stay away from laxitives.  Miralax and natural stool softners are safe to take long term.  Believe me, you do not want to suffer with constipation after surgery.  It can be bad.  Very, very bad.  So, my advice is to play it by ear, and see what works for you in the short and long term.  Do not be afraid of Miralax and stool softners.  They are your best friend right now.

I take Miralax every day..and I have for nearly 2 years now. ( I didn't start with it until I was almost 2 years out and experienced a partial blockage. )  I'd rather deal with adding a capful to my morning coffee than deal with the repercussions of not taking it.

Edited because..I'm me.

I take magnesium every day and have no intention of stopping it to find out if I can go on my own lol.

May I ask Kim how much magnesium you take?

Thanks!

Ditto the magnesium for constipation trick.  I take 500 mg in the morning and another 500 mg at night.  It works for me!
