I'm lost...
8 weeks post op - diet is regular
From my NUT: Get 60 to 80 grams of protein per day and 48 to 64 ounces of liquids. Do not eat bread, rice, pasta, potatoes or sugar. With a smile and a "Just do your best." That's the end of the advice and direction.
I lost 40pounds in the first six weeks. Since then, I've gained 3 pounds.
I don't understand at all. What's "just do your best" I don't understand not losing weight when consuming 600 calories a day and supposedly with RNY you're in a 30% malabsorption state. I'm not too concerned about the weight gain - I lost so much so fast - I figure my body is still adjusting.
Some foods: Chili, Soup, Beans, Taco meat - I can eat a 3/4 cup and feel great... is it too much? IDK, it doesn't feel like too much.
Other foods: chicken, ham, eggs, tuna - I take a few bites and the cramps are horrible so I don't eat much.
SO -- those of you that are and have been successful -- what have been your macros? Protein counts; Carb counts; Calorie counts; Fat count?
What foods do you totally 100% avoid?
Dumping: I haven't pushed the limits so I don't think I've done anything to cause dumping - I've never thrown up either (thank God); but, what causes dumping?
I feel great - truly - tons of energy and clear headed. I just need some REAL honest to goodness direction!

Protein minimum for me is 60. I always it that easily, typically its more than 70.
Carbs: I keep it less than my protein for the day-- a "bad" day i****ting 100
Calories I keep to 1000,
Fat- I don't count it.
I avoid the same things your nut told you to avoid; do I avoid them 100%. Nope. Do I regret that. nope.
I'm far less conservative in my approach than others though...

I can only tell you my experience. I'm 2.5 months in.
I haven't had any issues with any good foods. I'm lucky. If shrimp (as example) bothers you, wait a month and try again. My Dietician has me on 4 ounce meals (weight). That includes everything. I eat protein first, veggie second. Chew a million times!!!!
I do not eat anything white (except Cauliflower). No flour, no fried, no heavy sugar, no pasta, no real fatty. I eat low or no fat cheese. Low fat baby bels are great. I make low fat (well drained) chili, chicken dishes (no skin), fish, shrimp. Sometimes I have chicken or Tuna salad with low fat mayo. I can send you some recipes.
I lose almost every day and I'm never hungry. I also take a brisk 2 mile walk 6X a week.
Just keep imagining that your stomach is a golf ball and ask yourself, "will this fit?" Remember no water within 30 minutes of a meal!

I would love some of your recipes, I am trying to lose now I am still pre-op but I figure it won't hurt a bit to lose a few pounds now and get in good habits.

Nutritionists stink. They very rarely give good advice.
You've lost 40 pounds in 2 months. That's fantastic. You will not lose every day, or every week. Follow the plan, and you will do great.
Your calories are fine. Make most of them protein, and carbs as low as possible. Fat should be fine. If you are eating well, you won't need to worry about fat.
Water should be at least 64 ounces. 100 is better.
If you can do the above, you will be jumping for joy on your first surgiversary.

Check out the "what's on your menu" topic on this forum. It's a great way to see what others are eating and gives you some great ideas as well. We are all slightly different but we all have stalls at one point or the other. My calories tend to be between 500-600, the only carbs I eat are from veggies or dairy. So basically I only eat meat, fish, cheese and veggies if I have room. I track everything I eat on My Fitness Pal and I try to post my menu as often as possible on the "what on your menu" topic. Daisy and JB do a great job and even give newbies like you and me great advice at times. Try looking through that topic and you'll be happy you did.

I am four months out today, and eat a LOT of greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and still have my protein shake every morning. chicken, fish, most meat, ham make me very queasy and I hate the smell. I keep trying but so far dairy sits best with me. I easily get 60 grams a day, now shooting for 70-90. I keep my carbs as low as I can, always below 50 grams a day. I do no****ch fat grams. I struggle with liquids but usually get at least 64 ounces. I drink right up to a meal but then not for 30 minutes after. I do not dump but usually that is related to eating sugar or really fatty/fried foods. I do not eat those.
40 pounds is a lot for 8 weeks! You may have eaten salty foods and that is just three pounds of water. I gained four pounds in a day last week but dropped it couple of days later.

I agree with getting on the "Menu" post everyday. It's an endless source of "what's being eaten", and you can see people's stats, and correlate those to how much they are eating.
At 8 weeks, I couldn't' eat things like chicken, pork, tuna, meatballs, ground beef, turkey... I had a hard time with most of the more dense proteins... less than 2 ounces, for sure (I measure my food on a scale, not in a measuring cup, I can cram A LOT in a measuring cup if my brain is determined).
Now, at almost 8 months, I measure out 2.5-3.0 ounces of my dense protein, and then I'll add a bit of a veggie/sauce/sometimes a carb to my plate, but it is always at or under 4 ounces. Am I always full? Mmmmm... no, I could probably shovel more in, but I know that when I get overfull, I get sick... I get things stuck, and then I regret... so I'm happy keeping it under at this point, and I'm satisfied.
I go for under 40grams of carb... but I'm an oldtime Atkins lover, so low carb really resonates with me, and my body likes it. Calories are typically 800-900, I don't measure fat. I like fat. (See above about being that Atkins lover LOL)
Oh, and I don't eat soup because of the 30 minute rule about not drinking and eating... but I know lots of folks do. Just seems counter-intuitive to me at this point.

like Peachpie, I'm far less conservative than most. At eight weeks out, I averaged 700 calories. I have to keep my protein level at about 100 grams per day or my prealbumin level tanks. I never worried one iota about fat calories. I always did higher carbs than most, but then, I'm not particularly carb sensitive. I average around 100 a day. I was probably less than that at eight weeks out given my lower calorie intake, but I never obsessed over them. I just avoided (and still avoid) simple carbs like sugars and starches, and limit my amounts of whole grains. My carbs come from dairy, veggies, fruit, and whole grains (when I eat them).
if you're eating 600 calories a day and have gained three pounds, you're probably in a stall - or retaining water - or constipated. You're not gaining fat on 600 kcal a day. Just wait it out - and stick to your plan.
