Protein
Hello everyone
I am day 3 post RNY... I continue to feel great!
I still can't believe that I had the RNY
I started my Costco Premier Protein shakes today. I slowly sipped it over a period of an hour & half. It is 325 mls with 30 grams of protein. I am happy to say that I am tolerating them.
My question - Is that too much fluid I that time frame?
Should I be spreading it out like I did in the beginning with the water?
Not sure if the fluid just slowly leaks out of my pouch. Argh am I doing it right.?
Should I wait 30 before I drink water or tea?
Thanks for your input!
Sandra

Sounds about right to me. I don't think you need to wait 30 minutes when you are on liquids. You,will need to wait when you get to soft foods.

You're doing great. You can't really harm yourself drinking too fast. It would be too uncomfortable and you'd stop before that happened.
Protein drinks are a liquid, so there is no need to wait for 30 minutes after drinking one. You'll probably not feel like having the additional fluid so shortly after surgery though.

Sounds about the right timing. At the beginning i used those little cups and drank an ounce of protein shake, then an ounce of water, cup every 15 minutes. But very quickly I learned how to sip and stopped using the little cups. About day 4 or 5 I was in the bathroom at night, got thirsty and drank an entire glass of water. I realzed shortly what I had done, and it terrified me. I had images of my new pouch bursting open ;). It was painful for a while but not disastrous. And you will learn fast!
oh my I did that 'habitual' bathroom glass of water and I learned as well, lol.
I replaced the bathroom cup with a shot glass :)

As others have said fluids can be taken at any pace that is comfortable.... and the protein drinks count towards your fluid totals as well....fluids won't hurt you. and yes no need to wait 30 minutes... You can never drink too many fluids, esp. at this point....
(Yes, I know technically someone... not necessarily a WLS someone, could drink too much fluids, but that is a rare statistical outlier, and not what we are talking about here...)

Hi Sandra,
So glad you're doing well, and that you're tolerating the Premier Protein. Sorry I don't have any answers.
Does the Premier Protein taste OK? I'm on my first day of Optifast today. My first shake this morning was awful because I had no ice and the water wasn't cold, but later, with ice, it was OK. Not yummy or anything, but way better than the first one. I'm munching on some celery now. So glad I"m allowed 2 cups of veggies so I can still chew something every day. The crunch is lovely, lol.
How does it feel to be on the loser's bench?
