A Most Important Message for Those Who Want Easy Answers...
Thanks, it's always good to call out if something doesn't seem right! I think complacency is what can get many of us in trouble! But, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. The amount of fat or carbs in a couple of tablespoons of gravy are negligible; it's mostly made up of broth. Same with dressing in coleslaw (it is homemade, no sugar added). Stuffing, fair enough, my mom's is all bread and butter...but at 1 tablespoon, again isn't significant. I had a look back and my total carbs for Christmas Day was 21.
Fat, so long as it fits in your overall calorie goal (mine is between 450-550, and a min of 1g of protein for every 10 calories) isn't a bad thing in my opinion. We need it in our diet and it increases satiety.
And unfortunately, my dieticians only complaint would be that my carbs are too low haha they want me to be eating between 100-150. Bazonkers.

I'm nervous for you. Your weight loss is diminishing pretty fast. Your dietician is contrary to everyone I've talked to here. It's not about calories. It's about protein.
It's also about developing good habits.
Please put out a separate post about what your dietician told you about 100-150 carbs. See what reactions you get. You'll come back and tell me what a nice guy I am :)
Lol, I mentioned the dietician because you said they would be unhappy with me re carbs and fat. I was pointing out that, unfortunately, they wouldn't. I definitely don't listen to them regarding carbs. I agree their recommendations are not in line with members here. Unfortunately, their recommendations are in line with a lot of dietitians in general. And I have posted about it, regularly.
Calories absolutely matter. Too many and you still gain weight. Regardless of the source. There are many many posts regarding this on here. As grim says, calories are king.
weightloss is not linear. Last month 11, this month, 17 and counting. Next month, who can say.
ive structured my eating based on the recommendations and examples of the vets on here. So far, so good.

From the posts I've read all the bariatric centres here in Ontario recommend a diet that includes 100-150 grams of carbs per day. IF and I are both regulars on the daily menu thread and the vets on here all agree that is far too many carbs. I won't be following those recommendations either. Daisy is through the same centre that I'm with and has also told me they will continue to push carbs. I don't think you can really judge IF's diet by 1 meal on Christmas Day that still met all her goals. I see her consistency on the daily menu thread and on the weekly weigh-in thread on the BMI over 50 forum.

Hi Daizymom,
That's very interesting about their standard for Carbs in Canada. It really is against everything I have been told. My concern for InsertFitness is that habits push forward for a lifetime. This is about habits for a lifetime that are backed up by our surgery.
I just think "stuffing" is about as contrary as it gets.
That said, I may have been a little tough on her. The ones on OH who were the toughest on me helped me (and continue to help me) the most!
Thanks for your insight!

I gave the investment you make but never mentioned ALL of the benefits (for me):
>I've lost 61 pounds already for the first time in my life (41 to go)
>My chronic joint pain (pain pills for years) is gone!
>My sleep apnea is probably gone (haven't been tested yet but my snoring has ceased).
>I have a ton more energy (walk 2 miles a day and easier to do everything)
>I have reduced my Cholesterol meds by half!
>I am about to reduce my blood pressure meds by half!
>I have eliminated another med related to my diabetes (type 1)
>I have reduced my insulin by over 75% (as type 1 I will always need it)
>I have achieved (already) what I have never achieved before!
The benefits (for me) (when you consider them in relation to what you give up) are a million to one in favor of having RNY!
