I'm new here and would like someone to rationalize with me :-)
You're right, I surely don't! Crackers, no... nut thins yes, in a couple of weeks unless puréed. Which I convinced myself was happening in my mouth since everything went down so easily. I think a lot of it has to do with I won't eat unless it's something that sounds really good since I'm rarely ever hungry. So I try to get creative and find something that I actually want to put in my mouth. Sigh... this is so much more difficult than I thought
Hi Jenni,
I totally sympathize with you. I also wondered what the deal was with "pureed" food and chewing it up really well. But as you've already read, there's a difference.
I'm about 7 weeks post-op and I still wonder about some things, but I have accepted what the others are saying (for the most part!) and follow the doctor's orders and really did try to eat only mushy food for the three weeks after surgery. I recently made the mistake of eating Wheat Thins, which were on the OK list, as long as you chewed well and didn't overeat them. I did fine on the chewing, but I overate them. And I ate them with a beverage -- another no-no. I regained a few pounds. I was horrified. What was I thinking?! So now I won't be buying them or having them in the house. I don't need the carbs or the worry about a stretched-out pouch.
Everyone told me pre-op that the most important thing to do is to follow all the doctors' orders. When I slipped up, I felt so annoyed with myself that it wasn't worth the very temporary satisfaction of eating crackers with my tuna (yes, I also had tuna!) I'm back on track, and feel so much better!
Hang in there and come to the message boards when you need to. That has been enormously helpful for me, too.
Good luck!
