I'm new here and would like someone to rationalize with me :-)

Hi guys! I'm rather new to the WLS community as I am 2.5 weeks-ish post op. I'm looking at y'all's posts and seeing the wonderful comraderie here and so I figured you seemed to be a group who can be of positive support.

here's my dilemma... I am currently on puréed/soft foods but in my head, and my rationale is, that everything that goes into my mouth is puréed with my teeth before I swallow it...? No? It's all healthy, protein-rich food and, granted, most of it is soft... but I'm thinking that at a little over 2 weeks out I surely should not be eating a nut thin (puréed in my mouth with a drink of unseeet tea.) It really was just one because I feel like I'm doing something wrong. ?

Any ideas are appreciated!

Thanks!

Jenni

Hi Jenni,

I'm 2.5 months out.  I'm doing great because I follow the instructions.  Chewing is way different from puree.  Puree should still be chewed to get used to chewing a lot!  Take each step one at a time.  Don't rush!  No nuts yet!

Follow the rules and you succeed.  Don't and you don't!

Welcome Jenni,

You will not find a lot of people on this site who will "rationalize" with you but we will tell you the truth.

Stay on plan and you'll do great.

Best wishes to you on your journey!

Welcome jenni, and congratulations on getting yourself through surgery and onto the loser's bench :P Like others have said, staying exactly on your plan is the best thing you can do for yourself, and having a place to come where people will NOT rationalize your mistakes, but encourage you to keep going and get back on track is just as important.

I'm not sure what you mean by a nut thin, but if you mean a full solid nut, then you need to go back to actually pureed foods. At 2.5 weeks out, I was able to eat peanut butter though, and got myself the PB2 Powdered peanut butter, which was super tasty and super filling. (Also, try not to eat and drink at the same time- I can appreciate you were trying to make the food more moist, but this will push your pouch as well.)

Good luck!

Nut thins are like a cracker made with ground up nuts... you know, like that can be used to escort some tuna into my mouth :-p but ok ok, thank you for the straight talk! I appreciate it

Making up our own eating plans got each one of us to morbid obesity and on the operating table.

It's time to stop making up your own eating plan, and follow the one that made others successful. If you do that, you'll be successful too.

This has probably been asked before, but how are you so knowledgeable?? I mean, legitimately in the know... there are a couple of others on here who are incredibly in the know too, but how? Did you do your own research? Are you doctors that are donating your time for those who don't quite get it? Don't get me wrong, I'm super appreciative and have read posts after posts on here and yours as well as some other women are so so helpful. But good Lord! How did y'all get in the know? Surely not just from living it... you're too smart for that!

I agree with the others. In addition to the medical reasons for following your plan, I feel that the liquid and Puree phases are really important for giving us a break from eating. It helps disrupt disordered eating patterns. Spend this time building on new healthy behaviours. Unlike many who are excited to return to solids, I was hesitant because I loved the freedom that came with not having to think about food all the time. It showed me how truly food centric my life was.
