Introducing myself

Hello Everyone

I have just found this website and forum and am a complete newbie to the idea of posting.  I was referred by my doctor for surgery in October 2016 and I will be attending an information session next week.  I am still on the fence about surgery, I am afraid of doing it but I am also scared what will become of me if I don't have surgery. I am hoping the information session will help me make a decision. Any support and advice you can give me will be appreciated.

Welcome! There's tons to read here about surgery from many of us that have had it. I'm thrilled that I had surgery and wouldn't change it for the world. I was very scared before hand and worried I was making a mistake. I definitely explored lots of topics and asked lots of questions here while I was considering RNY. The successful veterans here are wonderful and help all of us newbies stay on track and be successful. If you have questions you can search this forum to find lots of answers and you should always feel free to post a question if you have one. Good Luck with your decision making.

Hi OrangeBlossom, welcome :) Congratulations on starting your journey, whether that includes surgery will be up to you, but the information session will certainly help with your decision making, as will reading through the posts here and asking all the questions you can.

I started my process October 2015, and just had my surgery October 2016. I knew I wanted surgery before ever even speaking to my doctor about it, and my decision never wavered, even after taking an entire year to get the surgery done. I'm 2 months or so out now and its the best thing I could have ever done for myself. Good luck!

Hi Orange Blossom, and welcome!

I was on the fence about surgery for the longest time too, almost two years, lol.  It wasn't until the surgeon gave me the OK when I met him via telehealth ( a few months ago) that it became real to me, and I realized I did in fact want the surgery.  Before that, I think I was too afraid that I'd get rejected for surgery to hope for it too much, if that makes any sense.

I was also very scared, and am still a little bit scared  (but more excited than scared now).  I have surgery in 25 days; it's so hard to believe it's almost here.  I'm leaving for Toronto this Sunday for my pre-op appointment on Tuesday.

Hi OrangeBlossom! Welcome to the group! You will get great information from the session, and probably will be motivated to have surgery. It certainly did that for me. All I can say is that I am super happy that I had the surgery back in May! I feel like a new woman! Good luck with your decision!

Welcome Orangeblossom!

You may not know it now but you have already started your journey to better health.

Coming to this OH forum will change your life...

I sat on that fence for (4) years.  I now look back and think to myself what a waste of time that was...

I am a widow with (3) sons.  I was terrified about having this life changing surgery.  Worried I might die or develop complications.

This forum is filled with the most amazing strangers that you will find become your most supportive friends.

These people really want to help you through this crazy experience.  Every time I experienced any form of anxiety, I came here to this forum where I found comfort with this perfect group of strangers.  Love them to pieces.

I finally decided it was time to start living.

My motto is IN THE END, WE ONLY REGRET THE CHANCES WE DIDN'T TAKE...

NB ? I am day 2 RNY post op and feel great!

Can't wait to continue this amazing journey

Sincerely

Sandra
