I need some advice. I'm 5 months out and Dr. wants me to start adding carbs to my diet because I'm losing to much weight. I'm really not sure on what kind of carbs I should be adding. Any suggestions? TIA. Hope everyone has a happy and safe New Years??

Ignore them - they told me that too. You can't lose too fast. Just make sure you get your minimums on water and protein and take all your vitamins.

Wow, you've reached goal at 5 months out? That's fantastic!

I don't have any experience with this yet as I'm still pre-op but I guess it's up to you.  Do you agree with your doctor that you're losing too much or do you disagree?  If you agree, and you want to maintain your current weight, you could try some healthy carbs that come from whole foods (low sugar fruits and veggies), if you can tolerate that.

I'm sure people who've already had the surgery will have much better advice than I can offer.

Happy New Year!

You can try adding more vegetables, but I would avoid crappy carbs like bread and crackers for now. For most of us, the loss stops before we get too thin. Adding calories and food without much nutritional value tends to come back to bite us in the butt. Some people have trouble stopping the gain once they get back into bad habits. It's a balancing act for sure.

If you are comfortable and at goal, I would add carbs that aren't going to trigger cravings or reintroduce old habits. That will depend on you. In my case, I would add some fruits, and things like sweet potato, lentils beans etc. I would avoid simple carbs like white bread, pasta etc!

You're at goal, but what is yur BMI? Unless it's in the teens, I would ignore them, and keep doing what you've been doing.

Totally agree- the latest stats are that a good amount gain 10% of their loss back, better to be under your goal.

BTW- what is your goal and what is your BMI? Don't squander this this time, you don't get it back

You lost, on average, 15 pounds a month, which is fine, you just had less to lose than many of us.  Either way - Congrats on reaching one of your goals.

How did you decide that your goal was 150.  My dream goal was 165, but once I got there, my body wanted to be lower.  I am at 140 - right around BMI = 25.

Unless your BMI is already in the teens, I would consider losing some more to give yourself a cushion in case you put some back on.

If you already lost too much, I would add fruit, not crackers and bread.  But first make sure that you are having 80+ grams of protein and a few nuts/avocado for some good fats.

There is a formula for the min protein, but for 145 pounds it is 85 grams of prot a day.

I found the  OH Talk on Protein:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2a08Mq6Nt8

Thank you. I decided 150lbs would be a comfortable weight for me and to still look healthy. I don't want to look sickly. So far I'm off cholesterol meds, I no longer have sleep apnea and my back and walk has improved a lot (I've had 3 back surgeries in a 2 yr period)

The Dr told me that I could get down to 140 and still be ok but no less. Since I've lost so much already, he wants to slow it down. He was not expecting me to be at this weight already. He has me coming in once a month so he can keep a close eye on me

I'm scared to eat breads and pasta because I don't want to get back to my old weight or have anymore health issues.

I guess I should just listen to my body and it will let me know when enough is enough? My BMI is 23.4 I do snack on trail mix, avocado and beef jerky just to make sure I have enough protein.

Thank thank you so much for the advice. Happy New Year!
