Cover story
Hi guys!
Every year one of my best friends host New Year's Eve.
In the first 3 years following my husband's death, I would simply tell her that I just wasn't ready.
The last three years have been a lot of fun. My three kids hang out with their kids. This year I really didn't want to go.
It has nothing to do with self control. Day 15 Opti fast & I am past the point of no return.
My best friend know's about my RNY & has been supportive.
The problem is there are 2 other families that don't know.
So what do I say when they ask me why I am not eating?
One of them is known for being a gossip and quite honestly, I don't want the whole world to know. I am in a very calm place right now (thanks to all of you) . She has a very strong personality and has tendency to be quite opinionated.
What should I say?
Thanks for the input
Sandra

IN THE END WE ONLY REGRET CHANCES WE DIDN'T TAKE.
I recall having to go to a cookout while on the 2 week liquid diet. I was offered food and politely declined, without offering explanation. No one questioned me. I think we often convince ourselves we need to explain ourselves when we don't.
If anyone persists, people usually back off by saying you have food allergy, or upset stomach.

-THIS is why you are one of my favorite OH'ers. You are a class act and just know how to "handle" people without making THEM OR YOU feel uncomfortable!

I had to go to a party during my Optifast phase. I made one of the vanilla Optifast shakes with ice and decaf coffee crystals and put it into a large clear Starbucks cup. Everyone assumed I was drinking iced coffee.

Your story is yours to tell alone. You tell who you want when you want and be choosy about who you tell if they are motor mouths. I was VERY specific with my family that they were not to blab my medical information to others outside the family, and some did anyway. I was very unhappy with them. It is no ones business but your own and you choose to lead that.
You don't answer to anyone tell her you are not hungry then change the question to something about her. If she is a gossip she will be more than willing to talk about herself instead.
