What's on your Menu Today (Wednesday) RNYers?
Morning everyone!!
QOTD: Ugh. OK, so I'm an only child, from a set of divorced parents, who moved me from my extended family when I was 9. Christmas prior to the move was filled with parties, smoke filled rooms, with tons of laughter and presents (this is a very hazy memory for me, must be all the smoke in the homes back then, hahaha). The family Christmas traditions ran deep back then. Then we moved, and my parents divorced. I spent Christmas Eve with my mother (usually at some friend's house, drinking and laughter there too, but not the traditions)... then Christmas Day with my dad and his girlfriend's family (nice, but no real traditions). As an adult, I'd still see my dad until he moved, but Christmas with my mom got pretty lame for a few years - I did however spend many years with a good friend's family. After having my kids, I started some traditions, kinda, and my ex inlaws were not really a fun group to hang out with. Fast forward, and now I've moved my kids away from their extended family (my ex inlaws), and got remarried. Now it's a clusterfuck most every year. Sorry do be a debbie-downer, but really, Christmas is rough with my current spouse. We tried this year to start it off 'new', with a new tree and new ornaments (God, don't get me started on trying to share ornaments)... He gets very stressed this time of the year, and honestly, at this very moment, I'm very tired of it.
Why does me saying I want to open presents with his sister/mom/BIL/Niece on Christmas Eve, and then our family open them on Christmas Day equate to me saying that 'his' family doesn't count??! IT DOESN'T!!!!! (it has to do with the fact my mom will be staying the night with us, so she'll be there Christmas day too... and it wasn't ME that told his mom to buy Blaine the stool that goes with her keyboard, so now if she opens that up on Christmas Eve she'll know what her big present is for the year!)
Oh, and this year, my kids leave Christmas Day and don't come home until after NYD... they go spend it with their dad...
Anyway, at this moment, I'm ready for Christmas to go away...
I like Halloween the best...

And so I don't leave on a down moment... TOMORROW I SEE MY BESTIE and her family for the day in Dallas! It's been far too many years (5?), and I can't wait!! Her extended family was the family I spent MANY a Thanksgiving and Christmas with in my teens and twenties. I'm very excited!!! They now live in the UK, so this is an extra special day for me!

And Daisy, I never remember to always respond to you in my big post, and I hate that!
I just LOVE the idea of the table cloth... what an awesome treasure! I would love to do something like that, only mine would only be in Sharpie pen because for the life of me, I'd NEVER embroider that!
The picture of you and your baby is great too!!!
Have a great trip, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!!!

Daisy, I LOVE the tablecloth thing! That is really wonderful, just wonderful.
Once again, I am just not having time to read everyone's posts. And, little time to post myself.
QOTD--Traditions: I think we have loads of traditions, but the other day my 12 son was moaning, "Why don't we have any Christmas traditions?" He is my moaner, and I guess he just compares us to the families who go to Hawaii for Christmas (he has a good friend like that).
A few of my favorite, traditions:
(1) we hang star garlands over all the doorways on our main floor. They are little golden stars.
(2) We always make cranberry bread for Christmas. We have an awesome recipe. I do eat it! But I have to limit it a lot now, obviously.
(3) We have Spode Christmas Tree china that I bought as a college student in England. We use it Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
(4) On Christmas eve, we have dinner that always included poached salmon. Then a little family gathering. Everyone has to prepare a poem, a song, a short game, etc. We read the Christmas story from the Bible.
(5) my favorite: we slow down Christmas morning. Everyone has to be awake, dressed, room tidy. Then a family prayer and photos on the stairs of the kids lined up by age. Then we all go to the kitchen table, where Santa has left the filled stockings, as well as some fun cereals and things for whatever pets we have, and usually for the wild birds. Everyone goes through and admires the contents of the stockings for everyone, and everyone is required to eat breakfast! Then we go into the front room where the tree is. this room has French doors, and Santa covers them from the inside with a blanket so no one can see in until everyone goes in together. Then we open gifts one at a time. I love it--it makes the celebration last so much longer.
(6) In my extended family, until this year when it just got too big, we would meet for a party. We would have the cousins act out the Christmas story. We would always do silly stuff like "shepherds keeping watch over their sheep_ and someone would hang a wris****ch above the kid playing the sheep. The sheep had names like "haste," because "the shepherds came with haste" to see the baby Jesus. Also, the angel who visits the shepherds is named "Lo." because the bible says, "And Lo, the angel of the Lord . . ." This drove my very religious dad crazy, but I think he liked it too.
Menu for today:
B: Scrambled egg, cheddar, grape tomatoes
L: Italian roast beef with apple
D: Curry chicken with cauliflower
Happy Day everyone!
Daisy I love the pics. You are a beautiful woman inside and out.
I love, love, love the tablecloth...what a sweet tradition
Tis the season to be overly busy so have been a little MIA myself, I try to go back at night and catch up. Enjoy your offline time. Has anyone stepped up to take over?
QOTD: My little family tradition...just me and my son, and now with his family... open stockings first, then read the Christmas story from the Bible, then gifts. Always make a big breakfast and eat them off my grandmothed's china. Once a year china and crystal. My son always went to his Dad's Christmas aftednoon, so this was our one special meal together. Christmas eve was always with the bigger family, my siblings and their kids.
My new tradition as my son isn't with me or arrives on Christmas day like this year... Is to go to my brother's ...lots of fun and craziness with young adults. 7 of them between 22 and 32 plus their husbands, significant others etc. I sleep over and just hangout for breakfast and gift opening until I need to go to airport to pick my son and family up.
B: coffee and miralax, PB and SF J on low carb pita
L: tuna
D: chicken and swiss low carb wrap with honey mustard
Snacks: nuts, greek yogurt, quest bar

I had my metabolic rate tested in November. I can't believe how much damage I did to my metabolism. Even with how active I am, my base metabolic rate is 1239 calories. I get that at 122 lbs I'm relatively small, but crap, what does a girl have to do to eat more around here??? Just kidding, but my Dr. and Dietitian were surprised at the rate. They thought it would be closer to 1500-1600.
