What's on your Menu Today (Wednesday) RNYers?
one of my great grandmothers was German/Bohemian (she was born and reared in what is now Romania, though - which was very culturally diverse before the Nazis took over...). She died when I was 16, so I remember her well. I remember her cooking was very meat-centric. I don't remember that particular dish, but when I was a child I pretty much hated all meat except for poultry, so she may have made something like that. Ugh. She definitely made a lot of potatoes and dumplings, though.

Good morning DD2 and gang. I got some pretty heavy news yesterday and it kinda sent me into a binge eating nose-dive. A good friend of mine lost her adult son on Monday night to a heroin overdose. He was in his early 20's and has a 3 year old son the same age as my youngest. We just saw him at his son's birthday party in October and we had a playdate with his little one just a couple of weeks ago. I am so sad for my friend, she has had such a rough year in general, she lost her best friend to ALS in October and earlier in the year they lost their house, both she and her husband lost their jobs and money has just been super tight. Both she and her hubby are back to work, and they are in a new place, but the stress of this year has been so bad. My heart goes out to her. Please say a prayer or swing a chicken for her and her family.
But, all of this sent me into a tailspin yesterday. I literally binged last night, to the point that I was hurting, and then I had some more. I didn't even track my calories. My hubby is back to work after being off on medical for 2 weeks after his surgery, and he had to stay the night away so it was just me and the kids. It was so hard to deal with.
But today is another day. I haven't eaten breakfast and I didn't pack a lunch, but they are ordering from a Mexican place here today so I'm getting a bowl with beans and steak, which should be a decent lunch (as long as I don't eat the chips).
DD2QOTD: I have started a tradition in my family. Since 2009 I have been hosting Christmas Day at my house. My side of the family comes at around noon and we do a gift exchange, and then my inlaws come at around 3 for dinner. My mother in law, who lives around the block, hosts Christmas Eve. I love the holiday's and I love hosting. I also love giving gifts.
I don't have a menu for today. Just coffee this morning.
Definitely will be sending up prayers for this poor family and for you too,Deanna. Don't let it throw you into a tailspin as I know your friend wouldn't want that either. Our world is such a scary place now with so much hurt and anger and pain. The presidential election shows us that. I try my best to make my little sector a little safer and more loving and caring for people but often it seems so little. Praying for you, your friend and for our world today :(
