Monthly cycles and weight loss
on 12/20/16 5:49 am
im just wondering how monthly cycles affect your weight loss. I haven't weighed myself in a week and I got on the scale and I'm the same as I was last week, 239. I'm wondering if my cycle is the culprit or if it's the dreaded 3 week stall that everyone talks about.
Probably both actually. That's why I weigh myself every day. Granted, it isn't for everyone, but my weight bounces around like crazy from one day to the next, but the weekly and monthly trends are always going down, so I'm ok with it. And knowing how much it varies, keeps me from being disappointed on any specific day.
Easier said than done, but if you are 100% confident you are on plan, just keep your head down, and doing the work. The losses will come.

This is so me. I VASTLY prefer to weigh every morning. I am not upset if the scale bounces around a bit as long as the trend is downward. I joined WW years ago and didn't have a working scale. So I weight myself weekly at meetings. I was so frustrated sometimes. Got a scale and found out that from day to day I can vary greatly.
(sorry this is a rant of mine, so many people push, including my centre to NOT weigh daily. I can see how that might not work for somepeople, but why not 'do what works for you')

So far 80 pounds lost!
The three week stall is Real for most people. I was one of the lucky ones that it didn't happen to.
But, in the past, prior to WLS, when I would lose it was on a monthly schedule... I'd start losing the day I started my period, and then continue to lose for about 4-5 days... then I'd bounce a bit, level out, and it was on like donkey kong the next month all over again. Since then I've had a hysterectomy, and now WLS... I didn't have that happen until recently, but I'm definitely seeing a period of sitting still on the scale, then several days of loss, bounce, settle, rinse repeat. I'm thinking I'm losing now (after about 5 months or so) like I did prior to all of this, just no period to time it to.

I know if I am bloated or feeling like I have gained. I try on pants that have no stretch in them. So I know it is not always the scale.
I also try my rings on. It shows me if I am retaining water.
The scale can be our best friend it can also be our own worst enemy. I weigh in every day. I know it keeps me honest.
In the beginning you will lose. It will happen.
Look at NSVs to help you when the scale doesn't move.

My weight loss has been exactly as previously described. I lose a few pounds then I sit and I may go up and down a pound or so then all of a sudden I lose again and the cycle starts over. I weight daily just to keep myself on the right track. I have this fear that all of the sudden it will start going up and not go down.

Depends on the person really- haven't had a cycle in about 8 months- I'm not complaining- the gyno says it will come back once I stabilize a bit and I'm still losing though slowly.
but i still have a hesitation during parts of the month- usually near the end of the month then have a drop at the beginning.
In the past I have found dropping 40 or more pounds easy. Sadly they would always come back. (hence surgery)
So I have a fair bit of experience with my cycle and weight loss. For me before the period and during my weight would stay the same or go up. Then after the period was over.. WHOOSH. I do hope that is going to happen to me too. I am at a bit of a stall (now at 4 weeks).
Not worried though. Measurements are still a changing!

My cycle wreaks havoc on my weight loss! I always feel bloated and have trouble losing weight during that week, but I usually see a big downward trend on the scale immediately after it's over. I'm now in the perimenopausal stage, so my cycle can skip a couple of months or can come two or three times in a month, so I am definitely noticing the way it effects my weight loss!
