Whoever is here first will start us out when you are on vacation. We've got it covered,my dear. My dream job would be running and working at a no kill animal shelter. It seems like it would be such rewarding work even though I know there are difficult aspects to it too. I would love to volunteer at one but hubby won't allow it because he knows my soft heart and that I would bring home one million and one animals. Probably literally. All the dogs I've ever had have been rescues from local shelters and every last one of them were so loving. If you're feeling down and need some extra love this Christmas please think about bringing home a pet from a shelter. Getting off the soapbox now. Post op 4 years 4 months and weight at 117.2 today. Lily and I will do our 3.2 miles this afternoon when it's a bit warmer. Here's the eats B 1/2 c steel cut oats with protein and peanut butter added L 31/2 oz baked chicken 1/2 c sweet potatoes D 31/2 oz kielbasa 1/2 c green beans S .P3 Pak. Have a great day everyone and make some amazing choices that bring you one step closer to your goal!

Yesterday I went to lunch with a coworker who was showing me pictures of the $3,000 French Bulldog she found online, in Texas, that she was trying to talk her boyfriend into letting her have... it was all I could do to not bite her head off. So many flags in that one that I'd like to burn... IF you MUST buy a full bred dog, please do TONS of homework, unexpected visits to the home, and make sure you're not buying a dog who's parents live in a rabbit cage in the backyard with 50 other dogs that have never walked on grass. IF you MUST buy a full bred dog PLEASE get it fixed and don't tell me about how you might get a male next year to go with the female you are buying so you can recoup your money by breeding them!!! We don't need more breeders, I promise. And FINALLY, don't jokingly tell your boyfriend that you are soliciting donations from everyone in the car with you to get this dog, because I WILL speak up and say "Tell your boyfriend the only donation you'll get from me is a ride to the nearest shelter!" (Because I DID say that out loud)

OK, sorry... I didn't want you up on that soapbox all alone!

I'm stepping away now

there are some responsible breeders out there, but you're right - there are also a lot of "backyard breeders" and puppy/kitten mills.  It's awful.  Also, a lot of pet stores get their animals from puppy/kitten mills.  People need to do a lot of research before buying.  I do own a couple of purebred cats (in addition to my shelter cats), but I got them from breeder friends after they (the cats) had been retired from showing or breeding.  They needed a home, so...  I would never buy a purebred puppy or kitten - I don't want to perpetuate selective breeding, even though I have a couple of friends who do it!  (they're small-time, responsible breeders, though, with world-class show cats - in fact, one of mine once ranked #2 in the world for his breed - that was way before I got him, though!!)

Thanks for stepping up there with me. My Lily came from a puppy mill 20 pounds underweight and riddled with arthritis and cysts from being over bred.but. So yes this riles me up! And yet she is the most loving dog ever!

we used to be a foster home for our local shelter.  Unfortunately, we kept adopting our charges and ended up with a houseful of cats!  So we had to get out of that racket.  So I can totally relate to your worry about bringing them all home!

We foster Boxers... it's SO HARD not to keep them... but every time when they find a new home for them, I think of how lucky that dog will be, and how I can help another one... so I keep letting them go to their new homes!

I rescued my full blooded Yorkie from an ad on Craigslist... I did make the girl meet me at her Vet's office so I knew the dog wasn't stolen and being re-sold. That being said, she wasn't a cheap rescue! Little brat

I'd really love a French Bulldog... it's one of the breeds I want to own... I just can't find one in a rescue that's what I'm looking for. One day, maybe it'll happen.

We have a Boxer that we are adopting/fostering from a family member who just couldn't handle her. They didn't think it through... We also adopted a "mother" Pug from a kill shelter. She was tossed out from a puppy mill.  I want to jump up on your soap box Pam!!!!!!!
