Iv nutrition:(
I was four years out last August. Burgers are fine for me now, but they took a few months right after surgery. Any ground meat is tougher, cheaper cuts, so it doesn't sit well at first. Very tender cuts of beef tenderloin or deli meats were more my speed at first.
Cheeseburgers didn't make me fat before surgery. It was two double burgers, and the double order of fries, with cheese and bacon on them if I could, and the desserts that screwed me over. I most often skip the bun now, as well.

I'm 5 weeks out. I've had IV fluids and vitamins two times now, just yesterday was the last round.
Apparently I'm a slow learner. While sitting there they brought me a bottle of water and a nice hot cup of coffee. Well, guess what, room temperature or cold water gives me terrible pain, cramping and nausea. The hot/warm coffee make my little tummy feel good without any side effects.
So, today, I've only had warm beverages (water, coffee, tea) and I'm doing better -- still behind -- I've had 20 ounces so far without any pain, etc.
OH and the vitamins with the IV fluid is to help the body absorb the fluid better. I gotta say the B12 has given me some energy.
And don't be discouraged, I was angry at the responses of some towards you too. People can offer advice with compassion and that wasn't extended to you. I don't know why some long time RNYers are so angry... maybe they need a hamburger or something! (it's a joke people).
Thankfully I have not vomited once since surgery - pray I don't - but I certainly understand the inability to get all the fluids and proteins in!!
Hang in there, they keep saying it will get better, we just gotta believe it will!
I am one of the proud blunt long-timers. And no, I am not angry, but I definitely get frustrated with people who post the same thing repeatedly and ignore the good advice they are given.
Stick around and you can be the nice one

Hello and how are you feeling?
So sorry to hear that you are not feeling well.
What medication have they prescribed for your nausea?
I am a nurse and I would like to suggest the following.
I hope that this information may help.
I am not sure where you live but here in Canada we have an anti nausea medication called Zofran (Ondansetron).
It was a medication that we began treating chemotherapy patients decades ago.
How does ondansetron work in the body?
Ondansetron (Zofran) is used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy, radiation therapy & surgery. It works by blocking the action of serotonin, a natural substance that may cause nausea and vomiting. It targets a specific area in the brain to decrease or block the nausea.
When having any surgery I ask that they use Zofran for nausea as Gravol just makes you sleepy.
There is also Stemetil (Prochlorperazine) that is used to treat nausea & vert
Maxeran (metoclopramide) also used for nausea & vomitting.
I truly hope that you are going to feel better soon...
Sending you positive vibes and well being...
Take care
Mahalo

I am doing great! I was dehydrated even though I was sipping all day. I wasn't getting enough in because of the nausea. I have been getting zofran via an iv since Friday along with iv fluids once a day. I see the doc on Wed. I am now getting in at least 64 oz of fluids a day and the nausea is gone. As my doc suspected the nausea was from dehydration.
Thank you for your response. I read everything everyone suggested. If I drank more the. I was I would throw up so I know that I was doing all I could.
I am still around reading post but will never post here for a concern again. I don't need the negativity of people assuming I was not doing as directed. I was looking for people who dealt with the issue as my doc wanted to not judgement on my surgical teams choice.

I had to have a PICC line for 5 weeks after my sleeve surgery. I had terrible scar tissue from my previous band and may have had a leak. I throw up easily anyway. I could not stop throwing up even a sip of water at this time. The cycle of dehydration makes nausea worse. Getting the IV may be what you need to get hydrated long enough to help the nausea. The PICC line seemed horrible at the time but it was such a relief to get fluid and nutrition and just let my stomach have time to heal. Hope this gets you past this hurdle.
