Iv nutrition:(

Thank you! I will look into that patch. Today is day 4 of iv fluids and I feel so much better. I am getting in enough fluids by mouth now and almost at my protein for the day. I guess it was d due to dehydration. I see the nutritionalist on Wednesday. I thave two more days of ivs they want to make sure I am fully hydrated.
Warm liquids worked best for me and my grouchy "Betty" ...(yes I names the *****) I had to start every morning with a cap of rather warm tea- ginger and lemon - to wash the mucus and "stuff" from my pouch to wake her up. Small sips..Followed by small sips.. not moving around or watching TV or computer.. that made nausea worse for me.
Ginger tea - ginger capsules, smelling pure peppermint essential oils - all made a huge difference. Adding a pinch of "no salt " salt (it has sodium and potassium) really helped.
I had 2-3 months of constant nausea. I did not get one IV. I know if can be done. It takes a lot of work.
Watch for any signs of infection by the port. That can be life threatening.
Glad you are getting help. But ..Best - IMO - the more you can get oraly - or use bath (no lots of salt of chemicals) the more you will be able to drink overtime.

Hi it is me again... I must admit the vets and people who have been here and done that are right. I am quite nauseous during the time between Opti fast shakes. I find the water does not sit well with me. So I have a Chamomile tea 1st, 2nd & 3rd hour after my shake. Chamomile tea is soothing and I find that the warmth eases nausea.
Good luck and feel well

IN THE END WE ONLY REGRET CHANCES WE DIDN'T TAKE.
I had to receive IV liquids once, when I had an undiagnosed stricture. I wasn't keeping anything down. Once you get nauseated, it does make drinking/eating difficult. However, since you've had tests and everything is in order, as others have said, you need to make a plan for getting in fluids after you receive the IV. What I did was set an alarm to go off every 5 minutes, when I would drink 1 oz. Experiment with different temps as well. You can't continue not drinking and will need to push past the discomfort; its not optional. Once you are re-hydrated, you will feel much better.

Thank you!
I just left the metabolic Nutritionalist and she said she believes it is dehydration along with being low in a few things Like potassium. So she wants me to continue to do my best for the next 8 days along with a liter and a half of fluids, vitamins, and anti-nausea medicine via iv. She said she sees this often and I did the right thing by not waiting to long.
I am going to try setting a timer as someone suggested and the ginger. Right now the only fluids I can tolerate at all is Icy water and hot tea. So I will keep at it and pray I am turning a corner.
It's funny, with water, I preferred room temp, but I had to keep my protein shake in the freezer and drink it at an almost slush consistency. But now I can drink anything at any temp.
Good idea about the alarm. I also used little one ounce cups to work on pacing. I've heard others mention that too much liquid at a time can make people nauseous. And I tried to make sure I had 3 ounces every 15 minutes in the early days. But now, I can drink a liter in that time. Keep trying, you need to find something that works.
