Iv nutrition:(

You're morbidly obese, and only 4 weeks from surgery. You aren't malnourished. None of us were. Just the opposite.

You need an IV now. But once that gets you back to normal, you need to start drinking more. As others said, it's a vicious circle. You're recovering from major surgery. But they're going to give you fluids one drop at a time with an IV. You can take in one drop at a time without the IV. Not even a sip. Just drops. You can do this. You must do this. You will never feel well until you do.

No disprespect but my NUT and surgeon have stated I am malnourished and that my body is watting it's own muscle. They said this happens in a all number of patients and ore often women. Even when you are obese if you aren't getting in protein and proper vitamins you can cbecime malnourished.

Trust me the last think i want is an iv. My fridge, cabinets, and counters are full of stuff I am trying to drink.

Every single one of us loses muscle, bone and other lean body mass as we are losing. Every one of us. It's impossible to lose large amounts of weight without losing muscle. It doesn't make us malnourished.

After surgery, any of us could go without food completely for a month and be fine. Fat reserves are designed for this purpose. But you NEED to fibd a way to ge****er in, first. Then protein. And there is no rwason you can't be getting vitamins in as well, but a month or two of no vitamins is not a big dwal. Our bodies have reserves of those as well.

I know how hard this is. I went through it. But you need to find a way. Putting in IVs at home is not an answer.

You must not "try" -- you must "do" --

If you are able to work -- you aren't at death's door.

Additionally, what Grim has stated is 100% accurate.  We are all "malnourished" while losing.  You cannot starve to death while you are clinically obese.

Please know that we are giving you feedback because this is extremely common.  Many of us have been through this -- and we are trying to help you.

I won't respond again.  I can see that you are upset because perhaps you simply wanted sympathy and not constructive advice.

I'd like to suggest that instead of being defensive, perhaps consider that the advice you are receiving from people years out who've been there and done that may have some validity.

Maybe I am defensive because I a so sick. I came here to see if anyone had to have this iv. I am scared. As for you remark about work. Yes , I went yesterday and almost fainted during our fire drill. This clearly isn't a supportive place. My mistake for hoping it would be. I can't get in more then 20-30 oz of fluids because I am so sick. I I try all day. As far as vitamins I have tried several and o just throw up.

Thanks for making someone who could be hospitalized tonight feel even worse.

I certainly wont post here again.

Good luck to you, then. Support does not mean holding your hand and saying, "There, there". It means giving advice that you may not want to hear. The bottom line is you need to make a plan and do more to get your fluids in. NOT make excuses. This whole journey is about personal responsibility and doing what it takes to lose the weight and get healthy. When one things does not work, we try another route. It's what keeps us successful long-term.

I do hope you will listen to the good advice you have gotten on this thread and feel better soon. No one wishes you ill will.

I wasn't asking for anyone to hold my hand. When I drink I throw up so it is impossible for me to get my fluids in without vomiting. A little compassion for someone who is struggling would be nice not everyone is looking for tough love nor do I need tough love I know what I need to do and if I could do it without vomiting I would. I have learned to stop at the severe nausea so I do not vomit.

I read on this site everyday but I stopped posting because I was disappointed in all the criticism on a website designed to be a supportive community.  While I value the experience that the people here have, I dont think one should have to be thick skinned to participate.  I hope you quickly move past this stage.  Good Luck

If you are in that bad of shape then your surgeon is an ass for not helping you.  Maybe you should go back to the hospital and find out what is wrong.

Check into the vitamin patch. Nothing to swallow, just a patch. patchmd.com  My labs have been great with them, and if you are not able to get your vitamins down this is one way around that. I get the nausea thing (cancer survivor here). Try different temperatures= warm peppermint tea with small sips tended to work well for me. It might be something different for you that will work, but it is out there. Keep trying different things until you find something that will help.
