Iv nutrition:(

I have been having severe nausea for over two weeks. I am dehydrated again (went to ER once for fluids). Tomorrow after work I will be going to a metabolic nutritionalist to have an IV placed for fluids and nutrition. Someone will come to my house to give me treatments. I pray I make it through work tomorrow as I am getting weaker and dizzy. Had a few tests my pouch and surgery all look good. Just can't get past the nausea.

Anyone else have this happen.

4 weeks today down 32 pounds.

Thank you! Just so discouraged because I feel like I am dealing with the band all over again.

I'd image it does right now and can only imagine how frustrating that is but I can't help but believe this will pass. Once it does I can promise you it's nothing like the band, even when you make the mistake of eating to much or too fast it's not nearly as painful. So my hope is that this can pass sooner rather than later so you can appreciate all you've just gone through.

Sorry you are having to deal with this, did your surgeon recommend anything to help ease the nausea?

Unless you get your fluids in you will always deal with nausea.  Getting an IV placed for fluids and nutrition will not solve the problem.  You have to drink.

What is the issue besides nausea with getting plenty of fluids in daily?  If it is just nausea then your surgeon should be prescribing an anti-nausea medication.

Dehydration and nausea are a vicious circle.  Not getting enough fluids can and does cause horrendous nausea -- and when you feel nauseated, you don't feel like drinking.  I would suggest that you will need some anti-nausea medication prescribed by your doctor, and a plan to get yourself past this point.

One thing that works for many people is to use a plastic medicine cup (2 TBS) that you fill and drink every 15 minutes and work up to larger amounts in shorter time intervals.  The medicine cup gives you an accurate idea of how much you are drinking -- puts you on schedule and keeps you from gulping.  Another way to take in additional fluids is to use sugar free popsicles or jell-O.  You may need to be creative and persistent to get past this point.

The IV should be an absolute last resort and should never stand in for actually taking in fluids by mouth. The longer you rely on that, the less used to taking in fluids your body will become.

The iv is the last resort. I am now malnourished and dehydrated again. I am on anti- nausea meds round the clock. I sip all day the best I can. It is this iv at home or be hospitalized. I am weak and dizzy and barely making it through my work day. I can't drive because of the light headedness and dizziness.

at this point I don't believe I have any other choice. I push myself through work because I have to then I get home and sleep or lay on the couch so sick I can't do anything. This is no way to live.
