What's on your Menu today (Monday) RNYers?
Yes he was in a drug induced coma for a week in ICU on a ventilator and then in the hospital for several more weeks. He was 3 at the time. His epilepsy is controlled by medication. He was three at the time. His senior year of high school they weaned him off meds thinking he had outgrown the epilepsy. He went away to college med free but had a seizure during the night and fell out of bed his second week of college. So he's back on meds for life now. He has memory issues from the meds and seizures but with hard work graduated with a B-average and a bachelor of science degree in biology in 4 years. He went to a small school and he got tutoring and help as needed. He was one of the teaching assistantS his senior year and did endangered orchid propagation for 3 years with his advisor. It goes to show that if you want something there is always a way to get there--if you are willing to do the hard work. Life lesson I guess.
Morning Everyone!
What a great weekend! Yesterday I never got out of my pajamas! Score for me! I did do a lot around the house, but I did it all from the comfort of those nice warm fleece jammies, wool socks, and slippers.
This morning my car registered at 5 degrees! We've had a pretty major cold front land in our neck of the woods... hasn't been above freezing, or even close to it in days... yesterday the high was like 16. Had to put a heater out in the garage because our well pump froze. Thank goodness, so far, no broken pipes. Horses are cold, and cow looks like she'd rather be a ribeye at this point!
QOTD: I've been to the ER a few times... food poisoning from raw oysters when I was about 20 (I thought I was going to die!), and when I was 8, I was riding my bike down a hill when I lost control and slammed my face into the curb. I walekd home (refusing a ride from a mom that stopped, and she ended up following me home after giving me a gob full of kleenex to wipe off the blood - I wouldn't get into the car with a stranger!) I ended up in the hospital, in traction, for like 3 days... I had an orbital blowout in my right eye, and pulled every muscle in my neck. I also had stitches from a different accident maybe a year or two before that, in the bottom of my foot because I tried to climb a chain link fence. Crazy kid.

Uugh, I had a response half typed out and got distracted at work here and it somehow got closed out and I lost everything. So, here we go again:
Good morning DD2 and my crew. I had a wonderful weekend! Friday we got up to Frankenmuth at 4:30, which allowed us to miss ALL of the traffic and all of the snow! So, we went to dinner at The Bavarian Inn, and we were served by our "traditional German waiter". His name was Rico, and we laughed when he said he was from "southern Germany", lol.
The food was great, I didn't eat the bread, but I did have a little bit of buttered noodles and I totally skipped the dessert. We went shopping afterwards and walked around in the snow. It was very festive and very cold, so we didn't stay outside a lot, and my pictures are a bit fuzzy because it was actively snowing.
Friday night we spent some time in the hot tub. The kids wanted to play in the pool, but even though the pool was indoor, the water was way too cold. So even my little was in the hot tub, which wasn't really that hot. Saturday we got up and were at the outlet mall when they opened, and there was like absolutely no one there, likely because of the snow the night before. We stopped for lunch at this place called Tony's I75 and got lunch. I had never been there before and I was honestly shocked when the food came out and it was enormous. Apparently it's one of those places that gives everyone a pound of bacon with everything, lol. It's like Oprah... "And YOU get a pound of bacon, and you get a pound of bacon! Everyone gets a pound of bacon!" I ordered the hot turkey sandwich and had like 2 bites of everything before giving up and taking it home, lol. I still have like half of that stuff in the fridge right now.
DD2QOTD: Oh, have I been to the ER? The first time I was at the ER I was like 6 or 7 and fell and bumped my head on the corner of a table. I had to get stitches. Not even 2 weeks later I was jumping on the bed and fell and hit my face on the headboard. I ended up getting stitches in my eyebrow. I have also had stitches in my knee, when I was about 9 or 10, and then I broke my hand when I was 12. Then I didn't have any issues at all until I was older. Back in 2010, I went to the ER with severe abdominal pain, after much hemming and hawing, it was found that I had a nasty case of Colitis. Then, when I was pregnant with my kiddo, I had issues with breakthrough bleeding, so I was running to the ER every other day, seriously. And just a year before surgery I started having a weird feeling in my chest, so I went to see my PCP. He gave me an EKG and they said it was abnormal, so I got an ambulance ride to the hospital and an overnight stay for observation. Even after my RNY, I had severe pain at about 12days post op (ate some ground turkey, when I was on soft foods). I thought I had ripped my pouch open, but it turns out that it was just irritated.
!6+ months since surgery and weight is hovering at about 158.5ish.
B: 1 egg, ½ an English muffin and 1 slice of cheese. Coffee with SF coffeemate
L: 3oz of turkey on 35 calorie bread with cheese, mayo and spicy mustard

Have a great day everyone! Stay warm.
It's so odd. When I see a heaping plate of food like that now I just get overwhelmed. Sometimes it almost makes me nauseated when I watch other people piling the food away now. And I know I used to eat like that before surgery too. I guess I just remember how miserable I felt when I stuffed myself and more importantly, how I felt about myself. It makes me a bit sad sometimes to watch others doing and being what I was before surgery.
Morning morning gang! The weekend was lovely. We celebrated our pretend Christmas and had a great time. The kids made sugar cookies and iced the little men into all sorts of inappropriate outfits. Was hilarious. I was so glad I had a good excuse for not eating any cookies because they looked pretty bad. Bakers the kids are not.
On a less happy note I just got a call from my heart doctor's nurse. She said the doctor asked her to call me because my echo from last week came back not good. Apparently my heart function has declined significantly and that is not cool. The doctor said there is nothing that I need to do right now but that he wanted to make sure I did not miss my appointment on the 30th and to go to the ER if I feel "poorly". The nurse said the plan will likely more or different meds but surgical intervention is on the table. Really?...a pacemaker at 45 seems like a crappy reward for losing all this weight. I'm kinda glum about the whole thing. The nurse was so sad about calling me. She said, "Well...I know this is not great news but...I really want you to enjoy Christmas! Sorry to have to call you." She apologized like five times. The worst was there is no earlier appointment that they could give me because the doctor is out of town for vacation until next week. Grrreeaattt....just...um...ya' know...don't have a heart attack between now and then...Merry Christmas. LOL Thanks. Big help.
QOTD: Yes, many many many ER visits. Feels like way more than anyone should have. Fell off my horse and got drug underneath at 14, horse stepped on my foot and broke some bones when is was 16, a few runs related to pregnancy, several kidney stones and/or infections in my twenties, and two heart attacks. Wheee.
Menu: Greek yogurt, Greek yogurt, two Mandarin oranges are in my lunch bag. Not clue beyond that. Wasn't feeling the whole planning thing this morning. Too cold to think (24 degrees here and that is CRAZY cold for this part of Texas). Dinner might be left over chili but we might all be tired of that and I may go to the store for something. Not sure. Wish me luck.

Actually the new EF (ejection fraction) they found means I am in heart failure. :( Wheeee!
Bright side...they are still looking at meds as treatment with only possible need for surgery. Second bright side...if I need a heart transplant I am going to be a better candidate because of my healthy BMI.
So...there is that. *head desk*
