QOTD: Unfortunately several times. Mostly minor stuff. The first time was in my early 20's - we were playing driveway basketball and the ball hit the end of my finger. DH (and me) thought is was just jammed so didn't do anything. Next day I asked a nurse I worked with (working as an admin assistant at a hospital) and she suggested I go to the ER. Yup it was broken - a spiral break and finger was so swollen had to have my wedding ring cut off. DH really felt bad. Scariest visit (for me at least) was about 10 years ago. I really thought I was having a heart attack. Couldn't breathe, worst pain I have ever experienced. Turned out to be a severe gallbladder attack. Morphine was the best thing in the world that night! Had gallbladder surgery a few weeks later. At least I don't have to worry about gallbladder issues post WLS. Lots of ED visits with parents and in-laws. Parents are both deceased now, but in-laws are in their mid-80's with failing health so unfortunately there will probably be several more ED trips in the future.

"Oh give thanks to the Lord for he is good!"
one more day of this God forsaken bone-chilling weather - and then we're up around 30 degrees F. for the rest of the week. Halleleujah!!!
QOTD: twice. Once when I was 10 and showing off while ice skating (my plan, at the time, was to be in the Olympics - HA!!! That accident pretty much ended my (pipe) dream!). The second time was about 10 years ago when I suffered a short bout of amnesia (lasted about three hours). I somehow got to work, but it was clear to my co-workers that I was completely out of it, so I ended up in the ER (the co-workers thought I'd had a stroke, but it was some rare, weird amnesia thing called Transient Global Amnesia). I couldn't drive for something like six months (state law). Understandable, but what a huge pain. Anyway, I haven't had that issue since, and probably won't again...
18 months out
B: plain whole milk Greek yogurt, blackberry sauce
S: coffee with half & half, SF protein/pumpkin/Metamucil latte
L: 1 C turkey chili

Omg, I will be googling "Transient Global Amnesia" as soon as I get a minute. WTH!? I thought that only happened on soap operas! Yikes.

it's real - but fortunately, very rare. The neurologist knew what it was, though, when he saw me (although he ran an EEG just to make sure it wasn't some kind of seizure - it wasn't). They really don't know what causes it because it almost always resolves once they get you the hospital and start running tests (I had an EKG, EEG, CT Scan, MRI, and spinal tap). From what I've read, it's more common in migraine sufferers than non-migraine- sufferers, so there might be some correlation there. I *did* have a migraine that morning. All I remember was getting on the bus up the street from my house, and the next thing I knew, I was in the ER - three hours later. I have no recollection of what happened during those three hours. I was really surprised I knew what bus stop to get off of and how to get to my office, but the neurologist said things you do every day like that are sort of automatic - your brain just remembers - so he wasn't surprised. Thank God I didn't drive in that morning, though - YIKES!

Wow. My grandma had an epileptic seizure when she was driving, once. She remembered to stop at stop signs, and drove at the speed limit, etc. but she didn't know where she was going so she just drove until she ran out of gas and someone found her. The brain is amazing.
