3 week post op surgeon visit and some questions
on 12/16/16 4:18 am
I visited my surgeon for my 3 week post op visit. I was 256 day of surgery and 239 on Wednesday. So down 17 lbs in 3 weeks. I felt really good about it. My doctor felt that this is slow weight loss and I should be losing faster. I was like seriously! I am still in the pureed food stage. I am getting in at least 60 grams of protein a day and 80 ounces of water. She feels that this is to much protein and that I should cut it back to 50 grams a day and I would have more weight loss. I am eating approx 400 calories a day. I think I am doing great.
Should I be cutting back on protein?? Any and all suggestions are welcome.
That's bananas! No, keep doing what you are doing! You're losing more than 5 pounds a week!

Don't change a thing. You're doing great. If anything, up the protein a little, but not while your calories are still this low. They won't stay this low once you are fully healed.
I lost 24 pounds my first month, and I was a lot bigger than you.
Stay the course.

I would say that 17 lbs in three weeks is pretty impressive. You're on the right track. I wouldn't change anything. We have pretty close surgery dates. I've lost 17 since surgery as well. Saw my doc on Wednesday, and he said that I was doing great, so I don't see how 17 lbs in three weeks is slow loss.
Keep on keepin' on, dear.

So sorry that your MD was so discouraging! You're doing great! My weight loss the first few weeks post op was slower than I anticipated but it picked up eventually. We're all different so just keep doing what you're doing and don't let your doc rain on your parade. Plenty of cheerleaders here!

I lost 18-something the first entire month. I was pretty pleased with that. I think you're spot on, and doing a great job!

Hello Maddymoe!
Congratulations on your weight loss so far.
While I am not at the RNY stage as of yet,
I believe the weight loss during the Optifast stage
is probably why you have lost 17 lbs. Your body is adjusting.
I am day 3 of Optifast and was very surprised that
I lost 7 lbs.
Keep up the great work and don't let anything discouraged you!
Good luck

My surgeon's office gave me a goal to reach for each visit. Next time ask how much you need to lose for the next visit. Then you will know the expectation and not be surprised. I would not cut back on protein. I think 60 is a minimum for most people and 80 ounces of water is great.
