How to handle job interview that includes lunch?
Hi everyone, first time posting. I recently had gastric bypass on 11/11/16 and tomorrow I have a job interview that will also include a lunch with one of the leaders of the plant. I'm just now starting to try some different foods - by different I mean not just protein shakes. Basically all that I've had is Greek yogurt, turkey, some cheese and eggs. I have no idea what will be served for lunch or where we will be going - the plant may have a cafeteria. How would you handle this? I'm more concerned over this hour lunch than I am the 6 hours of interviews!
Good luck with the job interview and I wish I had some wise words of wisdom for you on what to eat/order. Someone suggested in this forum in a similar situation to just keep moving your food around and that they won't really notice. As a Human Resources Mgr I can tell you that the lunch is just a good time to relax with the person you are having lunch with and a lot of talking usually occurs. You can learn alot while eating lunch by just asking questions that you might not ask in a formal interview. Once again, good luck... let us know how it goes!

The only difference between "extraordinary" and "ordinary" is that little "extra"!!
Wow, that's a tough one! I would definitely not ask for a special meal, because that is going to make you look like you might be demanding. I think I would just eat a few bites of any items you are able to eat, and move the food around on your plate, like someone else suggested. Good luck on the interview!

Maybe get soup and eat the broth mostly if not sure about the stuff in it? That's what I had the first couple of times I went out to eat early on.

This is definitely a hard one!
First - good luck with the interview!
Second and what I would be concerned with is the food. If it's a restaurant I would try soup - nothing creamy - but if it's broth-ish based you should be able to eat it. Maybe chicken noodle soup? Eating around the noodles is easy enough to do and easy enough to do and avoid having the other person notice.
If they have a salad bar that's an option and they could have that at a cafeteria. Cottage cheese is a good thing to have that's usually on those. And they usually have eggs on those I think? SOmetimes yogurt too.

Yikes that timing is tough! I'd be in the soup club too. I had soups the first few times I was out. Even something like French onion soup, I just ate the broth and not the bread or cheese. I would also not ask to bring a lunch or call attention with special dietary requests.
And as mute said, fingers crossed for a salad bar. I know you had eggs, but have you tried boiled yet? Any salad on the menu like nicoises or Cobb and you can eat a bit of the egg?
good luck with the interview!

Thanks for the replies! They took me to a "good country cooking restaurant down the road." That was a nervous 10 min drive for me! Thankfully they have a soup of the day there. It was tomato soup which I haven't tried since surgery - actually I loathe tomato soup but I by God made myself eat a few spoonfuls of it today while praying it didn't make me sick. I mostly "played" in it with my spoon while making small talk but it seemed to have worked. Thanks again!
Looking forward to how it went today! I'm late in replying. We have luncheons around here all the time. The last one they brought in pizza. A lot of people don't eat the crust. So I scraped the toppings off, without making a big deal, I picked off the veggies (not cooked enough for the soft/mushy phase) and slowly enjoyed the toppings from two slices. Nobody made comment or notice. Another time they served Lasagna. I picked around it and moved it around the plate so it looked like I had eaten some -- to have left it as a big square on the plate would have been weird/rude.
I hope it went well for you!!!
