PTH Levels?
So my PTH levels have been off forever. This was my last chance to change them before being referred to an endo. My question is has anyone had this issue and no if it is related to Diet Soda. I don't want advice on that subject in particular. I drink it and my body handles it fine and it hasn't caused problems with my eating or anything else, but just wondering if this might be affecting these levels.
Thanks,
Erin

Off how? PTH is a much better indicator of bone health than the calcium lab test.
The calcium test shows if you have enough in your blood. But it doesn't mean you are getting enough calcium. If you start running low, your body will leach calcium from your bones. When that happens, your PTH will be high. It's one test that the low end of the range is better than high. Low means your calcium intake is good.
I had much better absorption of calcium from the patch than I did from oral calcium.

Here are my last few results.
PTH Intact 9.0 - 72.0 pg/mL | 92.7 | 59.6 | 84.5 | 86.7 |
Calcium 8.5 - 10.5 mg/dL | 9.9 | 8.5 | 8.7 | 10.2 | 9.4 | 9.3 | 8.4 | 8.7 | 9.4 | 8.9 | |||
I included my calcium numbers too, it's not pretty from the chart, but my blood calcium numbers are okay. I'm sure I'm still getting referred but was curious. I switched to patched these past three months in hopes of trying something different. Not sure if it might take longer than three months to see some changes either.

Most likely, you are leaching calcium from your bones. It could be you are not taking enough calcium, the wrong kind, or your D levels are also low.
I was not good at absorbing any amount of calcium, I was taking 2,500 a day. I use the patch multi and the patch D3/Calcium now, and have improved a lot.
Have a doctor check it out though. It could be other things. But a year out from RNY, it is likely a calcium issue.

It takes a while for lab results to move. Some things, like D3, can change pretty quickly, and pretty predictably. Other things, such as iron, take huge doses, for a long time, and still little change.
Keep at it, and TRACK your results. Trends over time are more important than individual numbers.

Are your levels too high or too low?
(PTH) blood test measures the level of parathyroid hormone in the blood. This test is used to help identify hyperparathyroidism, to find the cause of abnormal calcium levels, or to check the status of chronic kidney disease. PTH controls calcium and phosphorus and vitamin D levels in the blood.
Calcium imbalances in the blood may be a sign of parathyroid gland or PTH issues. Calcium levels in the blood signal the parathyroid glands to release PTH. When calcium levels are low, the parathyroid glands increase PTH production. When calcium levels are high, the glands slow down the secretion of PTH.
I would definitely encourage you to pursue the Endocrinologist appointment. You don't want things to get out of control.
Good luck
