feeling very nervous...going on vacation

Greetings!

Later this week, we leave for a long weekend (Thurs-Mon) vacation.  We are going to Universal Studios and staying on property at one of their hotels.  This means, eating out almost every meal and...what is most difficult for me...no scale.

Had my surgery on 8/23/16.  We've eaten at restaurants since the surgery, but, of course, not every day for many days in a row.  I already know that I'll be sharing meals with a family member and feel confident that I (we) can order grilled shrimp, seafood, steak, chicken and other high protein meals.  It just makes me very anxious to not know how they are prepared.  I also haven't dealt with so much temptation for poor food choices since my surgery (although we were at Universal Studios at the very beginning of my liquid/soft phase pre-surgery and I did fine).  I am bringing along my high protein coffee drink and (hopefully) my protein water.  We have a small fridge in the room, so I'll pick up some greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.

I use the daily weigh-ins to help ensure that I am on track.  I'm pretty sure that my husband would rant if I asked to pack the scale...  I know that many, many people do not do daily weigh ins and do really well, but it feels like a safety net to me.

The good news is that I should be able to fit on all of the rides this time around!!

Just wanted to share my fears and see if anyone had any great tips for me.

Many thanks~

I wouldn't worry about a long weekend.  A month maybe, but not a long weekend.  Eat your cottage cheese, yogurt, etc in your room when you can - order bariatric-friendly appetizers at restaurants (or grilled fish or chicken - and only eat a small portion).  Maybe carry a couple of cheese sticks or a protein bar along with you for "emergencies".

Most nicer hotel gyms have scales.  You might check for one. You will be fine either way.  Just enjoy the trip for the adventure not for the food. ~E

What a wonderful vacation!  I'm so jealous; I'd love to see the Harry Potter areas!

If you ask, they should be able to tell you how the food is prepared, hopefully.  I understand worrying about temptation; that would be a problem for me too (I'm presurgery) but really, you seem to have a handle on this.  You already plan to share with family, and order the high protein meals, and keep protein snacks in the mini fridge. I bet you'll do great, and have a fabulous time!

Have fun,

Kathy

Think about the fun you will have. Being able to go on rides and walking with your family. Meals will always be one of the things we have to watch regardless of where we are.

I give myself a break from the scale on vacation. I won't get back on it till about two days after the trip. Retaining water weight can really screw with our heads. If you follow protein forward you will be fine.

Pack some protein bars for the park so you have a snack.

Going on vacation can be scary but it is so doable.

OMG!!!!

How exciting!

Universal Studios is gonna be amazing.

Sounds like you already have a plan...

I have to admit I prefer Universal VS Disney...

The one thing you can count on is a whole lot of walking.

You will probably walk close to 15000-20000 steps.

Well... depending on your stamina...

Remember you drink lots of water....

Maybe pack some Premier Protein shakes...

You are going to be just fine ...

Enjoy

You'll be fine - enjoy your vacation.  I figured you meant a food scale.  I weigh everything myself to track my food but also to make sure I don't overeat.  You'll just have to rely on memory of what portion sizes look like.  I just keep in mind an ounce of cheese is one finger or a small slice and four ounces of meat is about the size of a deck of cards.

At fast food type places, a child's cheeseburger less the bun or a smaller size fried chicken breast less the skin will work for me.

A lot of theme parks won't let you bring food in but you can bring unmixed protein powder and shake it in a bottled water.  it's not perfect but works in a pinch.
