How much can I drink the first few days after surgery
Hi guys!
The dr instructed me to drink 5 ounces over the period of an hour. I increased it to 6 ounces over an hour but still feel like I could drink a little more-like maybe 8. I had gastric bypass surgery 4 days ago. Am I risking a complication with the staple line if I drink more?
thanks for your input!
If you can get in more, that's great. I could barely meet my minimums when I first came home. Don't push yourself though, it can be painful and uncomfortable!
Hi Lex_Lee, as long as you are sipping and not gulping, I don't see how it would be possible to harm yourself. (?) My handbook said 64 ounces of water per day. I stuck to water only the first few days and then added things like water enhancers and tea after that. Fruit juices were discouraged due to sugar and acid content in them. Soda pop, coffee, and alcohol were listed as a lifetime "avoid" beverages. I remember one suggestion given by a medical team member: never let a water bottle leave your hand those first few months and hardly ever thereafter.
