Good morning everyone!
We're off to a Christmas party this evening and I'm thankful that I'm way too early in this process to worry about being tempted by any of the food. After a bad reaction to a protein shake I've been even more mindful of taking this slow and there's no way I'd risk having a bad reaction to anything while I'm out so I'll be filling my face with festive water.
QOTD I have had Christmas music playing steadily since December first and it always helps to lift my Christmas spirit. Traditional or silly I'll listen to them all but the first two that came to mind when you asked for a favourite were Silent Night and It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. My plan for today is to have the music going while I wrap some gifts and start painting a ceramic Santa for my Mom. I used to paint them for her quite regularly but I haven't done one in years and I'm excited to surprise her by reviving an old tradition.
Food today is protein shakes, cottage cheese and tuna.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Morning! I've been on my run, am at bowling. Plan for today is Christmas shopping. Most is being done via Amazon, but I will venture to a few stores. I'm near a big lots and have never bee in one.
This year it seems my kids grew out of the traditions we had up until now. We'd always reserve a day to see Christmas in the city- light show in the comcast center, wannamakers lights show at Macy's. Reading terminal train display, Christmas village and ice skating. Neither of them want to this year-- they are sort of old for it-- but we don't have anything to take its place. QOTD: my favorite classic carol is the Carol of the Bells. Modern is Mariah Carey's all I want for Christmas is you.

Last night we went to a Jim Gaffigan performance. Not Christmas-y, but so much fun. We took our kids, so it was a huge splurge. Laughing is always good.
I have loved reading this thread for recommendations for Christmas music! I also love Jesus Christ the Apple Tree--in fact, yesterday I was thinking I would like to have it sung at my funeral.
I am a violinist and have led church choirs for many years--both adult and children--and my MA is in creative writing--so when you combine music and text, it is too hard for me to choose favorites! This is definitely a trigger question for me:
This year, I have listened over and over again to Leslie Odom Jr's new Christmas album, "Simply Christmas"--I love it, especially his version of My Favorite Things and Winter Song. Some really nice ehoes of Nat King Cole with a modern twist.
I also never get tired of the Canadian Brass's Christmas album, "Noel."
Also there is some very beautiful music the year that Sissel recorded with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, on the album called "Spirit of the Season." (the MoTab version of "Angels from the Realms of Glory" is really a great arrangement.)
And! I love The album "Wassail" by Linn Barnes and Allison Hampton
And Lorena Mikkennitt's "To Drive the Cold Winter Away."
For just individual songs, I really love "In the Bleak Midwinter," "How Far Is It To Bethlehem," and "The Secret of Christmas." I love the words in Secret of Christmas (by Sammy Cahn):
The little things you do on Christmas Day
Will not bring back the friend you've turned away.
So may I suggest . . . the secret of Christmas
Is not the things you do at Christmastime
But the Christmas things you do all year through.
Oh yeah, and I am really tired of Santa Baby. My 12yr old plays piano in a big-band style jazz band, which is doing Santa Baby this year, so we have listened to it over and over AND OVER again! Lots of versions. The weirdest by far is Michael Buble, who sings "Santa Buddy," and it is just a little bit creepy.
AND, edited to add: "Children Go Where I Send Thee" by Natalie Merchant. Such a great growl there. (Maybe I will be adding songs all day as I listen and think "love" over and over again.)
My eating plan for today!
B: Egg with cheese and tomatoes
L: Homemade butternut squash soup (admittedly carby slider food and not dense protein), but I will add in bacon and pecans.
D: Out with husband. Not sure where we are going. I am always confident about making good choices in restaurants. I often do better there than at home--isn't that strange?
S: (1) Homemade baked parmesan crisps, (2) cashew bites
Also drinking my favorites. Crio Bru, and herb teas, throughout the day.
