Frustrated...weight gain
Hello Everyone,
I'm 11 weeks post revision from lap band to RNY today, weighing in at 205, 5'3. I've lost about 37 lbs since surgery. I have had weeks of stalls, but this week, over the past couple of days I've actually gained weight. (about 1lb)
I've kept everything the same, calories are typically between 450-550. I always get in at least 60g of protein, the only carbs I eat are the occasional non starchy veggie. (yesterday I cut them out cause the scale had gone up a bit). Always get at least 64oz of water and all my vitamins in. I make sure I'm "regular".
Any thoughts on the cause? Should I switch things up. My menu has become pretty regular or is this just a normal thing? Hard to eat this way and see the scale go up.

Hi Norma, I have also lost and gained the same pound since Thanksgiving. I had my 3 month check up Wednesday; the doc said this is normal especially for a revision rny. It does mess with your head!!! He said not to obsess on the little things, but look at the big picture, how much total weight lost. Easier said than done!
Thanks, It certainly is easier said than done! I'll keep on working! Added some protein today and I'm going to up my fluids. See if that does anything.

I went through nearly three weeks of that. Gains, then tiny loses, gains again. Averaging just 2 pound loss over that time. But then between yesterday and this morning, I dropped 6 pounds.
My body is a mystery.
If you are 100% confident you are on plan, just keep your head down and do the work, it will come off when it wants!

Hi- are you tracking food in my fitness plan or another app? Are you pooping normally? Enough liquids and protein, lower carb?
Other than that- you are probably being too hard on yourself- you are only 11 weeks out. My stats are below and I didn't drop a ton a month, it was steady over time. also, your weight will likely lose/gain at a stair fashion.
Thanks, Yes, I do track daily on my fitness pal and do all of the above so I guess I should just be patient. Haha

If you are truly keeping calories that low, don't worry about it. You'll lose. It just doesn't happen in a straight line. Stick to the plan.

maybe your calories are too low ... sounds crazy, I know ... but if your body isn't getting enough calories, it will hold on to what's it's got, so you don't "starve". increasing your calories, just by a little, and increasing your activity level just a bit may do wonders for your metabolism and weight loss. our bodies are masters at adapting, so changing things out from time to time keeps everything working at a higher efficiency! good luck!!

It just doesn't work like that. Really low calories will result in more loss. Keep it up for too long, and you'd wither away and die of starvation. "Starvation mode" thinking is just not true.
