How many calories should I be consuming
My surgeon and NUT never talked about calories until I got close to maintenance. For me, and I'm only 5'4" and not very active, maintenance is about 1200 to 1300. I did figure out in the beginning I was taking in about 600 to 700. Mid-way through the year it creeped up to about 800 and I think I'm somewhere around 1000 right now... still losing, but very, very slowly.
I have noticed when I pay very close attention and I'm very strict with myself for a few days, I can drop a whole pound in a week. But if I drop the focus and taste test too much and don't drink my water requirement, I can gain a pound in a day.
I read somewhere early on in this journey that 10 calories a day above what our bodies actually need can lead to a 10 pound gain in a year. Seems a little extreme... but I somehow weighed 100 pounds more than I should have a year ago. Now, on these very low calorie counts I'm just 20 or so pounds over where the insurance companies want me to be (just 6 pounds or so over where I want to be).
That was where I was at that point. Everyone is different but in general I set my MyFitnessPal goal to 800 for the first year and rarely hit that mark. I was nearly always under at around 600.
Best to you!
