You have to work at it everyday.....
I had my RNY six and a half years ago. I heard about regain, but like others said, "That won't happen to me." For 6 years, I was logging my food, exercising regularly and weighing myself to stay close to my target weight. On July 3rd I went for a run in the morning and got married that afternoon in a fabulous NYC wedding. Then, it all slipped away.... I was on a high! I ate and drank through Europe on a fabulous two week honeymoon. Came back to more parties and celebrations and no exercise. I recently stepped on the scale and BAM! I have gained close to 20 pounds! I'm in shock. I know I'll lose it, but I tell this story as a warning to all that we have to be very careful every.single.day. It's too easy to get caught up and undo years of hardwork.
Thank you...we all need to hear these things, and hear them often!!!!!......gaining is scary....and it can come so quickly!
It's very easy to let one bad day turn to 2.......and so on and so on. It does need to be first and foremost on our minds every day to keep it in control.
I wish you well in getting back on track and getting rid of that 20.

This is such an important message for those of us in the honeymoon period to hear. Thank you for writing this.

GailS- Thanks for sharing. I am about 13 months post op and continue to struggle with food every day. Over the past 2 weeks I have gained about 2.6lbs. I have been eating the wrong foods and too much of the right food. I keep thinking that before I had surgery I had a 6 month pre-surgery plan required by insurance with a counselor that I spoke with about 2x per month. No one at the surgeons office or anyone told me that every day I would have to monitor the food intake to maintain the weight loss. Congratulations on 6 years. I know that you will be able to lose the 20lbs. What really frustrates me is that I exercise every day but still gain weight. My starting weight was 337 and today I weigh 177.6. On 10/22 I weighed 170lbs. It has been a tough month for me . Good Luck!!
